Summary
“Well, you’re not trying hard enough,” Battat hissed, cutting them off. He wasn’t even trying to listen or find a solution; he was just trying to win. They hated that.
“Don’t talk to me like dat,” Jongler shot back.
“Why should I? You clearly don’t respond to anything else!” Battat doubled down.
At that, Jongler crossed their arms, matching Battat. They easily dwarfed him, and they both knew that, physically, he didn’t stand a chance. Battat shifted, hopefully uncomfortable with the reminder.
“You know,” Battat hissed, voice a bit smaller, “I am so sick of having to constantly run everything by you when I can’t even trust you to do anything right!”
“If you’re so on top of everything, then why do I hafta babysit you to make sure ya actually go to sleep?”
After an argument with Battat, Jongler does something drastic.

Summary
“Turn around,” the voice drawled, low. He could feel its breath on his back. Battat couldn’t move.
“You’re hilarious,” it continued, laughing under its breath. It seemed to be closer to his ear, now, as Battat could viscerally feel the rumble of its voice. It almost felt like purring. “You’re more than happy to run yourself ragged, spend endless nights spinning in circles… You’ll even die, but you won’t turn around?”
Pretending to be someone is all fun and games until someone pretends to be you.

Summary
Jongler wondered why nobody was at her table, feeling a tug on their heartstrings. Maybe she was new.
Resolved, they made their way over.
“Howdy,” they said, taking a seat at the table. The dealer looked at them, but instead of smiling with a hint of gratitude (like they had imagined), she glared at them.
“Hey. You wanna join a table that, I don’t know, has anyone actually there? I’m off in ten.” She said shortly, sounding unamused.
Ouch.
Jongler blinked, taken aback. They were beginning to understand why her table was empty.
Jongler is just passing through town when they run into a poker dealer who catches their attention.

Summary
This mission was going horribly wrong.
Jongler’s mech had taken more hits than they were comfortable with, but that wasn’t what they were worried about. Pluey’s mech was so badly damaged that Jongler wasn’t sure if she was still alive. Battat’s mech wasn’t far behind hers.
“I can’t get ahold of Pluey!” Battat’s frantic voice came through Jongler’s mic. Through the static, they could hear her mech’s warning siren blaring, screaming at her about cascading system failures.
Through their mech’s porthole, Jongler could see Pluey’s mech in a wrecked, smoking heap. Her cockpit seemed to be intact, but if there was a fire, it might not matter. If they didn’t get to her in time, she’d die.
After a failed mission kills Battat and Pluey, Jongler tries to turn back the clock and rewrite their fates.

Summary
Battat thinks that things can't possibly get more overwhelming as the royal advisor to the King of Diamonds. That is, until he gets a letter from the Spade Court's magician, inviting him over for a cup of tea and card games.
Battat sees right through the note for what it really is: a test of his competence as the newly appointed royal advisor, of course.

Summary
His vision wavered, completely out of time from when he turned his head.
That doesn’t feel right.
Battat felt himself frown, turning his body to continue looking around the hall, eyes squinting as if it would change anything.
Same thing again, if anything giving him a sense of vertigo.
This and starting to get lightheaded, he placed a hand against the wall to steady himself, as if the ground could give out any moment.
“You’re such a good pal Mike, and these massages you started up recently, really!” Tenna pushed the door open, looking over before tilting his head. “Mike?”
His mouth turned dry, standing there before turning to look up at his boss.
Okay, not even a metaphor, his mouth literally felt like he suddenly wasn’t producing saliva.

Summary
Battat is their favorite thing to mess with. They usually love teasing him, bringing out his negative emotions and encouraging his curiosity. But he has stopped playing the game altogether. He has stopped doing anything at all.
For a reason it can't identify, they don't like seeing him this way. They aren't the emotional type, and neither is he, so they decide to help in a way that is unconventional. A way that he won't realize is helping at all.
It has the right idea, doesn't it?
