“Congratulations!” Catra called over her shoulder as she raced along the tree line, “you’re the slowest things on the island!”
The pookas on her tail gave an enraged shriek, and one launched itself towards her. She was priming herself to leap aside when a violet bolt caught the creature midair.
“Do you have to taunt them like that?” Micah asked. He shot a wary glare at the tree line and lowered his staff as the remaining pookas scrambled back into the forest.
“Something to remember me by,” Catra answered as they walked along the beach. “This place is gonna get boring once we’re gone.”

Catra’s mind is screaming 'what the actual fuck' but she pretends to wait patiently.
“I’m going to get married,” is what somehow leaves Adora’s mouth. Like she’s talking about the weather or something and not shifting everything in Catra’s brain.

The war finally ends, not with one final dramatic stand but with Hordak crushed in the foundry like a coward. So if everyone could just stop lecturing about friendship and forgiveness and stay out of the Fright Zone, that would be cool, ok? But a year later, in saunters that blonde idiot, dragging Catra out of her peaceful depression and into a bunch of princess nonsense. She-Ra is gone. Etheria has a chance for peace. But Adora’s got a new secret mission. Would be nice if she’d bother letting Catra in on what it is though since, you know, Catra’s kinda the key to it all…

Rare neutral ground between the warring forces of the Eternian Empire and the Galactic Horde, Etheria Station is a safe haven nestled in the center of the Whispering System.
Adora finds herself a deserter of both the Horde and the Eternian forces; seeking refuge in the only place in the galaxy left to her, she struggles to figure out what kind of life she wants to lead on Etheria Station now that she isn't a soldier any more. It doesn't take long for Catra to show up on the station, claiming that she's defected from the Horde, but Adora can't shake the feeling that of all the Horde's covert operatives, Catra is the one most uniquely qualified to successfully pull off a delicate 'retrieval' of a wayward Force Captain Adora.

She was singing to a sizable group of people who'd gathered around the fountain in the square, standing on the edge of the stone pool and crooning down to them, when a familiar pair of eyes locked onto her own from across the space. Her breath caught in her throat and suddenly she couldn't remember the next line and her fingers fumbled, ruining the chord. She tore her gaze away and tried to recover, but the mistake had been glaringly obvious and a few of the people at the back of the group began to wander off to finish their errands, leaving no coin in their wake.

After being rescued from the Fright Zone when they were young, Adora and Catra are now young teens growing up in Bright Moon, treated as the Princesses they were once taught to fear. Life is a far cry from the childhood they could have had – a safe home, caring adoptive parents and a decent education – though they all have their own insecurities: Adora is the gifted child with bad anxiety, Catra the moody teenager who fights her feelings of inferiority with attitude and Glimmer the rebellious kid who fears she can't measure up to the standards the new arrivals have set.
When Adora's true identity as She-Ra is revealed, it sends shockwaves through the trio. Though Angella tries to protect her from the power and responsibility she isn't ready for, Adora's self-doubt makes her wish she'd never set eyes on the sword. Catra's jealousy builds - and that gives Shadow Weaver the opportunity to drive a wedge between them and bring She-Ra back under her control.

Summary
Time does not slow as her hands close around Catra’s wrists, still inches from her chest. There is only the honeyed ease of it, like plucking a fruit from the vine, or a note from a string. Slayer reflexes, she realizes.
What dissipates then instead of heat is an entire childhood of evenly matched competition; is last week when they wrestled here on this very grass and had gotten tired and laughingly called a truce before either of them could stay on top for more than a minute.
A Buffy the Vampire Slayer AU. No knowledge of Buffy necessary to read! Expect: high-school and then college-age modern au, Adora acquiring superpowers and fighting the supernatural forces of darkness (but was that really such a good idea?), and high drama right beside the mundane.

Summary
They stay that way for a long time, Catra’s face tucked into Adora’s shoulder, Adora gently cradling Catra’s head. Adora is careful not to hug Catra too hard or make her feel restrained, anticipating the moment that Catra will start to pull away — but Catra doesn’t. She hangs on so tightly it hurts, her claws digging through Adora’s jacket and into her back, latching into her like she did when she was a kitten and didn’t know how much her claws could hurt. Adora tries not to wince, tries not to move a single muscle, worried that if she does the spell will break and Catra will struggle away, appalled at having shown weakness.
But Catra doesn’t let go. And so neither does Adora.
