Summary
Port Victory should be singing Jack Dawkins' praises and rightfully so. After all, he just successfully performed one of the most delicate and dangerous operations of his career, a surgery not even the famed Astley Cooper managed to pull off. Instead, they've left him languishing in a prison cell, chained like a common criminal and framed for the murder of Captain Lucien Gaines. Over a week after the surgery and Jack hasn't seen hide nor hair of either Fagin or Belle.
Justice Micawber is calling for blood. It's looking more and more likely it'll be Jack's.
Lady Belle is furious at the injustice of it all. Jack's a bloody hero! He's the best surgeon Port Victory's ever seen and she owes him her life -- quite literally. Belle is determined to put her foot down and restore the doctor's good name. But this time, she's going to need the help of every last sympathetic soul in Port Victory to do it. Jack Dawkins will walk free or Belle Fox will die trying and death is not an option.

I'm writing my vision of what Season 2 could be. Jack Dawkins is out of prison, but not entirely free. He and Belle are waiting out the end of his sentence to be together, but when a stranger arrives from London with questions about Jack's past and Belle's surgery, everything they're trying to build is thrown into Jeopardy. This work is part of a series but can be read alone.
Eight months was a very long time to be good.
The governor and Lady Fox had given him an extraordinary deal, he knew that. One more year of service to the hospital and his penal debt would be paid. His record would be expunged and he would be a free man for the first time in his adult life. Furthermore, he didn’t have to stop his work as a surgeon. In fact, Lady Fox had made it quite clear that his skill in that arena was a key reason for this miraculous deal.
All he had to do was abide by three simple rules:
- Don’t go anywhere
- Don’t make any money
- Don’t be alone with Belle

Summary
She stared at the scalpel then back at him. Surely, he must have known what this would do to her. The reminder of their first kiss across Sneed’s inert body. The unavoidable pull between them as he offered her everything she’d ever wanted. Surgery, yes but also someone who valued her, respected her.
Damn him.
There was another inert body with them today but that didn’t stop her any more than it had the first time. She pressed forward and ended up almost in his lap.

A rewriting of season 2 with more yearning, more kissing, more communication... Just more Belle and Jack, basically. The first three chapters follow episodes 2-4, with extended interactions. From chapter 4 onwards, we veer off course and the timeline gets extended - which means more time working together in the hospital in secret, an actual sleepover in the warehouse... Belle and Jack are very much a team here, facing obstacles together, which changes quite a bit actually. I hope you enjoy this rendition of season 2, with more of what we all love.
