Summary
He’s never cried this much in his life, never thought he had a legitimate reason to, never even considered that he ever would. Something heavy and warm closes around his throat, clasping with a small click and Darius makes a self-satisfied noise. His hands shoot out to grab at the fabric, to tear it away from him, but hesitate when instead of brushing fine silk they find cotton. It’s high quality, as expected because this is Darius’ cloak, but it's so different from the Golden Guard cape that his hands grip the fabric tighter instead of ripping it from his throat. The weight of it is both a painful reminder and a terrible comfort.
Then, softly, “I’ll take care of it, so please stop fighting me.”
Looking at the man is difficult, but Hunter manages it. He looks very serious, like he's in a meeting or negotiating for something important. It almost makes his laugh; why would Darius need any amount of agreement from Hunter?
“I promise.”
He didn’t ask Darius to, but maybe that’s what makes him believe it more.
ORRRRRRRRR I got my grubby hands on hollow mind and decided it wasn't BAD ENOUGH ALREADY.

Summary
After everything that happened, when the dust settled, the others cried. Not all at once, but in fits and starts. Gus first, and then Luz, when she was talking to her mom. Amity that night, when everyone was supposed to be asleep. Willow, surprisingly, early that next morning, seemingly unprompted.
Hunter understood. They were younger, less trained. They didn’t know how to just keep on moving forward, yet. And they were civilians, not soldiers, so it was more acceptable for them. Safer.
The others could cry. That wasn’t something Hunter did, though.
---
In the aftermath of the Day of Unity, the others cry. Hunter doesn't: because he doesn't need to, because that's not the kind of thing he does, because that's not who he is.

Summary
After taking a few minutes to pull himself together, Xiao finally opened his eyes and lifted his head to regard his master properly. Zhongli’s golden eyes wandered down his body, examining him carefully, then came back up to linger on his face. Or, more specifically, on his injured cheek. Xiao flinched involuntarily and evaded his gaze, turning his face the opposite way, but Zhongli didn’t comment on it.
“Why don’t you come here and tell me everything about it, while I take a look at your injuries?”
