“Ouch, dude. Right to the heart.” Kirishima acted as if he’d been shot, putting his hand over his chest and slouching back in his seat, long past being offended by Bakugou’s insistence on making fun of his hair. He was starting to think the teasing was meant to be fond.
“You’re a loser.” Bakugou rolled his eyes as Kirishima grinned and sat up, leaning his elbows on the table. “Order something so we can get started.” Bakugou gestured to the books between them.
Kirishima nodded and clenched a fist in front of himself. “Right!” Date or not, he really did need to study to pass, and he really wanted to pass. He had to go on the camping trip with everyone else! (With Bakugou.)

He couldn’t give up on a goal he’d been reaching for his whole life just like that. If he got the number one spot, even for just one ranking pass, maybe that would be enough to get rid of the feeling? He just couldn’t bring himself to care about any of it like he once had. He missed that crazy passion that had filled him, overflowing. Dangerously sometimes.
He just wanted to focus all of his energy on being the best; Without the media or random extras trying to get into his goddamned business. But that directly contradicted trying to be number one. The system was stupid.
