Summary
Kind lies or terrible truths. Kaz and Inej opted for Kind lies when raising Jordie. She will not know who The Wraith is. And she certainly, under no circumstances, will know about Dirtyhands. Too bad for them, Dirtyhands is a household name in the Van Eck mansion. A piece of fiction, a fantasy that is more often than not brought up in Jesper’s many barrel tales. Both Jesper and Wylan respect their friends and made a vow to never tell their kids or their nieces and nephews that Kaz and Inej were related to Dirtyhands and The Wraith in any way.
However, after a get together with all of the crows and their kids, one of Jesper’s barrel stories piqued the interest of an all too curious Jordie. That night she and Aditi set off for the barrel to find the infamous Dirtyhands, not realizing he is closer than they think. The crows set off to the Barrel to get the girls back. -

It had been over a year since Inej Ghafa last set foot in Ketterdam.
A long, bitter year, but that was fine. She was living her life, bringing down the vengeance of the Saints upon any bastard who thought selling people for a profit was a good idea.
No, she was out there on the open sea, free and doing good for whatever little it did. (It did much more than a little.) And Kaz was doing just fine, thank you- in fact, better than fine would be more accurate. The Dregs was, by far, the most powerful gang in the Barrel, and he was still richer than he could ever dream.
Dirtyhands had everything he had ever wanted and more.
Kaz only wanted one thing- one holy, unattainable thing. Not thing. Person.

Its been almost two years since Kaz first gifted Inej her ship, and a little over one year since he royally fucked up their relationship. He hasn't seen her since- not that he was waiting for her. He had more important plans to work on.
Unfortunately, what he didn't plan on was catching something that he couldn't talk himself out of.

Inej’s mother is as short and lean as her daughter, her thick black hair streaked with chunks of silver and white, caught in a long braid down her back. Her eyes are dark and wide, and her mouth is steady. When Kaz doesn't immediately join them at the table, she crosses her arms and raises an expectant eyebrow.
To his right, he hears Inej stifle a snicker into her hand as her eyes flicker between her mother and Kaz.
Amara Ghafa is not in the least bit intimidated by Kaz Brekker, or his reputation, or his fine dark suits.
She looks pointedly at the seat next to Inej. “Join us for dinner, Mr. Brekker.”---

Kaz has been cursed to be a crow. In order to break the spell Jan Van Eck put on him, he needs his girlfriend to swear her undying loyalty to him. The problem is that no one can tell Inej that. If one person shouldn’t be in the dark about the details of this curse, it’d be Inej. But alas. Here we are anyway.
Literally this is just a Six of Crows version of Swan Lake (y’know, the ballet?)

Summary
Modern AU where Kaz is Kirigan’s son and a Shadow Summoner, but - when Kirigan was presumed dead in the Fold - he was adopted by Colm and Jesper. Almost all of his backstory is still the same, but instead of his father dying in a plow accident, it was just Kirigan disappearing and remaking his new identity, but Jordie and Kaz were too young to know he would come back, so he had to find them in Ketterdam, but only found one of them, who was horribly traumatized by the death of the other and had already managed to adopt a gang as his own siblings and “children.” This is basically just Kaz having two dads, superpowers that make everyone hate him, and a whole lot of trauma. Starts as word reaches Ketterdam that the Darkling is confirmed to be alive, instead of dying in the Fold. Oh, and then Nikolai shows up and asks Kaz for a favor that will set them all on a collision course with the Darkling.

Captain Ghafa knew to venture into the Drowned Crossing, a perilous region of the True Sea perpetually cloaked in fog hiding jagged outcroppings that emerged like teeth from the water's surface, would be a terrible decision, but she had lost track of her navigation while nipping at the heels of the hulking slave ship she had been chasing.
Now her warship, the Wraith, is wreathed in mist and any advancement forward would spell death for her crew. They had all borne witness to the slave ship they were hunting sink into the angry waters after its hull was ripped open on the crag of a rock.
And then, the unthinkable happened.
A man—no, the ghost—said to haunt the Drowned Crossing appeared before them. And Inej realized if she were to ferry her crew to safety through these treacherous waves, there was only one way. She would strike a deal with the ghost; in exchange for his guidance through the fog, she would bargain anything. Be willing to part with anything.
Except...Inej could've never anticipated what this ghost, Kaz, would want most of all.

Summary
Kaz was a card dealer at a casino that occasionally skimmed off the side, his movements smooth and practised and untraceable even to the discerning eye.
Some days he spied a girl at his table perched on the lap of one man or another twice her age and size, their meaty hands around her waist like a vice, caging her. She, too, seemed to slips hands into pockets and pluck out wallets when the men that draped over her had their senses too dulled by alcohol. She thought no one noticed, and well, no one did, except for Kaz. And he wasn't going to say anything. For the most part, he simply watched her watch the flow of chips and cash with a dead look in her eyes.
Until one day, when the girl is caught for trying to pick pocket her client. And Kaz finds himself stepping in.

When Inej is caught skimming extra from her clients in order to pay off her debt to Heleen, Kaz offers her a job at the casino dealing cards to make extra money on the side so she can be rid of her debt quicker. In order to skirt Heleen's suspicions however, Kaz must pose as one of her regular clients, so she has an excuse ready to explain why she spends several of her nights at the casino.

It happened between lectures, in the narrow slice of time when the campus hummed without fully waking. Kaz had taken a shortcut through the old performance annex—a converted warehouse at the edge of campus housing rehearsal spaces, dance studios, and the kind of creative chaos he normally avoided. He only meant to pass through.
Music drifted out first.
Low, almost inaudible. A steady pulse, like a heartbeat slowed down. Kaz stopped without realizing he’d done so, his hand hovering near the doorframe of Studio C.
Inside, a girl was spinning.
Aerial silks—long ribbons of deep crimson fabric—hung from the ceiling, pooling softly on the polished floor. She moved with them as though they were extensions of her body, wrapping and releasing, lifting herself skyward with a strength that looked effortless only because it wasn’t.
Kaz forgot to breathe.

Jordie appraised the man silently, keeping his knife firmly against the stranger’s throat.
“Bastard of the Barrel, Dirtyhands - I go by a few names,” he said casually and let the sharp edge of the blade rise slightly to touch the man’s lips. “Once I cut out your tongue, you won’t be able to say any of them.”
A heavy silence fell between them - interrupted by a crunching sound. Jordie sighed and looked over his shoulder to where Kaz was eating an apple.
“Can we go to the fair now?” he asked impatiently. The man frowned.
“Who is that?”
Jordie plunged the knife into the man’s throat and shook his head.
“Kaz, we’ve talked about this.”

Jordie lives and becomes Dirtyhands. Sometimes, it's a little hard to be Jordan Brekker when your baby brother is Kaz Rietveld.
