“Fang’s got plans for you,” Pete had said with a wink when Lu got home, and she’d been so happy to hear it, had accepted the sweet kiss Pete had given her and then practically skipped to the bedroom in hopes of getting to spend an hour or two at Fang’s mercy in the best way possible.
Well, spending the time at Fang’s mercy had been right, at least.
“Tell me something you see that you like,” Fang says now, coaxing and sweet before she kisses Lu’s jaw, rubbing one hand over her inner thigh.
“Well first off, your strap,” Lu starts to say, because it’s the truth and sometimes Fang will give Lucius what she wants for being honest.

"Darling, there's nothing wrong with asking for help," he tries, slowly walking over to Ed and watching for any sign that he doesn't want to be touched, "but I know it can be hard. Will you let us, though?"
Stede watches Ed's eyes go glassy, filling with tears, and opens his arms just in time for Ed to fold around him, face pressing down into Stede's shoulder as he just nods helplessly. "I'm sorry," he mumbles, muffled against Stede's shirt, and Stede just tightens his grip and shushes him gently.
"It's okay, dearheart," and it's not, not really, not yet, but Stede can help Ed get back to that point, "I'm going to take care of you."

“I can’t believe Slider is getting married,” Maverick says, turning the heavy cream cardstock over in his hand. The envelope, addressed to LCDR Peter Michael Mitchell, lays torn open on his counter. He’s in his small kitchen, phone tucked against his shoulder, Ice’s voice in his ear. “You never mentioned he had a girl,” he adds, tone accusatory, “Mary. Have you met her?”
“Mary Elizabeth,” he corrects. “She came to visit while we were at Norfolk. Sweet girl.”
“I gotta say, I’m surprised I made the guest list,” Maverick says with a huff of laughter.

Summary
It's not that Jake loves Rooster, because he doesn't. It's the knowledge that whatever Rooster sees when he looks at Jake, it's not something he wants to keep around. Jake should be used to it by now, the effect he has on people. He has a big mouth and an even bigger ego, things that most people can't handle once they realise there's no soft centre underneath. He's bitter right down to the bones, snarky and brash and a little too much for everyone.
Love would require a level of attachment that no one has ever held for Jake.
