Summary
Shouto sits up in the bed to watch him as he slips into the hallway, hands clutching the stuffie on his lap. His blanket is baby pink fleece, well worn in from frequent washing, and every time he looks at the thing, Touya sees five-year-old Shouto clinging to it as their father tried to take it from him, shouting angrily.
When he steps back into his own room, Touya expects to see Shouto still sitting up and waiting for him.
He’s lying down again, curled up against Keigo’s chest. Keigo’s hand rubs his back in slow passes, almost covering the narrow width of Shouto’s body. They’re both quiet, just even breathing and the rustle of bedding disturbing the quiet stillness. Touya stands in the doorway, watching with a sudden, fluttering tightness in his chest; the way his little brother turns his face into Keigo’s shoulder and sighs drowsily.

Touya had filed for emergency custody of Shouto just over a year ago, immediately after removing him from the house in a panic, and Shouto had been officially under his care for the foreseeable future. The custody wasn’t temporary anymore.

Children are a rare in the Pride Ring, especially as sinners. What sorts of deeds in their short lives would lead a child to be cast into Hell? While Alastor never particularly cared for children, he's always been a bit curious about that, and about how growing up in Hell would impact their mental development. Renka zoomed around the bar like a little whirlwind, her tiny feet pattering against the floor as she ran in circles, arms spread out like she was flying. She was giggling uncontrollably, playing some game that only made sense in her own head.
“Vroooom! I’m faster than a Sea King!” she declared, spinning around a chair and nearly knocking over an empty bottle.
Rayleigh sipped his drink, watching with amusement. “She’s got a lot of energy today.”
Shakky, casually smoking, smirked. “She stole a piece of cake from a pirate earlier. You should’ve seen it—fastest heist in history.
Before Rayleigh could respond, Renka miscalculated her next turn. She ran full-speed straight into the wall.
BAM!
She blinked at the ceiling, processing what just happened. Then, her tiny face scrunched up, and—
“WAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!”
“Shakky, I think our daughter is dumb. I’m not sure, though.”
Shakky exhaled a slow puff of smoke, completely unfazed. “Ren-chan, wear your glasses.”
Renka sniffled dramatically, rubbing her forehead. “I don’t need them! I don’t wanna be an old man like Daddy!!”
Rayleigh nearly choked on his drink. “HEY!!”
