In a trademark manipulative Murdoc Niccals PR move, Murdoc tactfully rewrites the narrative around Plastic Beach, smoothing it over, making it so the public forgets how bad it really was, how bad he'd really been. He makes 2D play along. They pull it off so well 2D knows that if he told the truth, not a single soul on earth would believe him. And he has to try and live, knowing that.

Stuart Pot had guts. He just didn't know that, but he did have guts. It became obvious during one of Murdoc's rages and didn't know what to do with himself, and no one else seemed to know either. That drove him desperate.

The soreness radiating from his forehead threatened to split his skull in half. He once again felt like dead weight. Whether it was after being hit by a car or hunched over a porcelain throne because of his painkiller addiction, he always found himself here. Sprawled on the ground, in agony.
No one was coming to save him.

2D wasn’t sure how he was supposed to feel about all of it. To be quite honest with himself, he wished he hadn’t fallen for it in the first place.
It’s always a sudden shift in mood, a hand slips him a bag of weed, another hand turns on his favourite movie.

"2-D was bumbling, strangely naive...empty-headed, easily influenced. Peaceable.
This was one of the rare times that he seemed to be very little of those things, suddenly calm, self-assured, and cold. It was the calm part that was probably most off-putting. Not despondent or irritable—because 2-D had definitely been there before—but just unbothered by the disdain dripping from his own words.
And Murdoc couldn't get angrier, because this malice wasn't even unjustified, and he didn't have the energy left in him to pretend it was."

Murdoc just got out of jail (again) with a new lease on life after his almost disastrous escape attempt. Yet him and 2-D are right back to arguing over some petty thing that only they really understand. In other words, maybe things haven't changed much at all. (Except they both know that's not really true.)

Summary
When 2-D gets a mysterious fever he’s not too worried, he feels awful but it’s nothing he hasn’t dealt with before. Things get more serious as he becomes delirious and drops a glass cutting his feet. Murdoc finds him and takes his temperature, to his shock it’s a dangerous 41°C (105.8°F)! Thinking fast Murdoc decides the best way to lower his temperature would be an ice bath. It works but 2-D does not enjoy the experience.

Edit: Now proofread with spelling and grammar corrections
This fic was just a little writing drabble I did for a friend. It's a short story about a road trip with Russel and 2D to his parents house. The first part connects it into another drabble I did about Murdoc visiting his brother in jail but that needs reworking before it's posted (if it ever is). You can ignore the first paragraph or use your imagination. This story has not been beta'd by anyone so any spelling mistakes or poor grammar are mine.
I would consider this drabble AU because it doesn't follow cannon nor does it aim to. It's set early in the bands stay at Kong but that's about it really. I'm playing fast and loose with canon here lol I don't think anyone is terribly OOC but I've been wrong before
