Summary
By the time his last class rolls around, Eddie is on the verge of tears. He fucked up. He never should’ve bothered with college, this clearly isn’t the right path for him. He’s rounding the corner, ready to get this last class over with and then call it a day when it’s like a wall materializes in front of him. He smacks into it, stumbling and nearly falling until two callused hands grip his upper arms, steadying him.
“W-whoa, sorry man. I did not see you there.”
Startled, Eddie glances up. He’s met with bright blue eyes, blinking at him sheepishly. Something in Eddie's face must show the close proximity he is to a breakdown because the look shifts to concern, and the man doesn't let go of him.
“Hey, you okay?”

Summary
"You wanna talk about it?”
And to be completely honest? No, Eddie does not want to do that. Eddie wants to live in a reality where he can have sex with Buck, be with Buck, and not have it mean anything that would alter everything he's thought about himself. But that’s not realistic.
He still shakes his head though, not quite ready to dig into it.
“That’s okay.” Buck slides his hand down and grasps Eddie’s. “I’m here whenever you’re ready. But, cards on the table?” He squeezes Eddie's hand. “I want this. I want this with you.” Eddie stills, eyes searching Buck’s, whose mouth stretches into a lopsided grin. He shrugs. “Just thought you should know."
-------‐----------
After Buck and Eddie get together, Eddie starts meeting up with Father Brian to work through things so he doesn't mess up and ruin their relationship. Unfortunately, Buck gets the wrong idea and thinks he's cheating. -

Summary
"Bobby sees so much of himself in him, in the way he carries loss so heavily on his shoulders, in the way guilt can so easily grip him tight and threaten to never let go, in the way that he had to grow up too fast.
Bobby sees all this, and he thinks he can understand Eddie in a way no one else can. Sometimes, he sees Eddie get off a call with his parents, eyes tired and body dejected, and thinks let me help you, I can give you what they won't, but that's never quite been their relationship."
-------------
Eddie’s having a hard time after Christopher leaves to Texas, and Bobby just wants him to let him in, to let him help. -

Summary
Buck is flat on his back, head resting on the arm of the couch. There's a body curled on top of him and a head of dark brown hair tucked into the crook of his neck and shoulder, a blanket covering them both. The man's face is hidden, turned into Buck's chest but Hen would cut off her own foot if it were anyone but Eddie.
Buck gently takes his hand from where it was running up and down Eddie's back and raises it to his lips in the universal shush motion. Hen raises her eyebrows. She's not exactly surprised, that's not the right word, but intrigued, maybe.
“What are you guys doing out here?” she whispers.
-----------
5 times the 118 observes Buck and Eddie being "just really great best friends" and one time they do something that is decidedly not. -

Summary
"Eddie gingerly sets the can down and slowly lays back onto the bed, shaking. He needs to call someone, but his phone is dead and frankly, he doesn’t think his parents would be the most willing caretakers.
Tears prick at his eyes. What he really wants is to be in LA. LA means his old home, it means being a firefighter, it means Buck."
----------------------------------When Eddie gets sick in Texas, he doesn't have anyone there to look after him so Buck steps up.

Summary
“Ilya, what are we gonna do?” Shane says.
Ilya finishes whatever he has been doing on his phone, and tosses it gently to the bed beside him. He crosses the room to Shane, stands in front of him, squeezes into his shoulders with his big hands, rubbing them like he means to warm them up.
“Looks like we will have a little vacation,” he says, with a big obnoxious grin.
Boston and Montreal are sent to Paris to play against each other in an exhibition series in January 2017. Ilya and Shane decide to stay in Paris for one more night. Just one more night, so they can talk. Maybe finally understand each other.
They aren't expecting a volcano to erupt in Iceland and close all the airspace in Europe, leaving them stranded there. Together.

Weeks later, when the news finally breaks, the headlines will call it a “catastrophic brain injury”.
They’ll analyze the hit from every angle, trying to find just what went so wrong. It was clean, it was legal… and yet it somehow slammed Shane Hollander into the ice hard enough to end his career.

Summary
No serious hockey fan or sports commentator worth their salt would have considered record-breaking Boston superstar Ilya Rozanov to be Shane Hollander’s rival exactly, but sleeping with a man who had a specific offense-related vendetta against him and a wrist shot like a jet engine to back it up was probably ill-advised just the same.
Or, Shane is a goalie. Ilya can’t score.

Summary
It does mean missing out on things like barbeques and team dinners sometimes, but it’s not as if he would have been able to participate anyway. At this point in his life, risking someone not taking his allergies seriously would mean potentially missing games, which makes it unacceptable. Jackie always makes sure he has a dish or two that’s safe when he’s over at their house, but if he was going to be the one guy sitting and drinking ginger ale instead of taking part in sharing nachos or Korean barbeque or burgers or any other delicious thing he goes in knowing he can’t have anyway, there’s no point in making a fuss about it. He eats at home, has a drink with everyone else, and he calls it a day. Easy. Safe. Foolproof.
But also the reason it doesn’t occur to him that he hasn’t actually told Ilya about any of his allergies until it becomes immediately relevant five days into being at his cottage together.
(how ilya learns about shane's food allergies) (and how shane learns what it's like to have someone who always saves him a seat at the table) (and who also makes sure there's food he can eat on the table to start with)
