Summary
Over twelve years ago, I started a monumental ficlet collection called This Taste of Shadow - exploring and expanding upon the script the Professor left us in the Silmarillion and his Histories of Middle-earth. Now, I am indulging the crazy idea of embarking upon the monumental undertaking of revamping and reposting that collection in chronological order - while adding new material to fill in the missing pieces and tie up unfinished plot arcs along the way. This will be a slow updating series, as such, but, steadily, we'll get there.
To anyone who may have been familiar with my work in the past, I welcome you - just as I do anyone new who may wander by along the way. Thank you for joining me, and I hope that you enjoy.

Summary
For bereaved parents, grief became complicated and compound. The word for mourning was roughly translated to "sharing sadness to lessen a burden." For the grief of a child's death, the term was "soul loss," to convey the loss of an essential part of one's self.
Thus, "I mourn my child's death" became something akin to "I share this hole in my soul with others, that I may lessen the burden."
