Summary
“Come on, it’s Ryan Gosling, Eddie! Isn’t he everyone’s celebrity crush? Even you have to admit that he’s just an objectively beautiful man.”
Eddie chuckles, and Buck doesn’t miss the sudden rosiness to his cheeks as he ducks his head to finally zip up his med kit. “Hey, I’m definitely not disagreeing with you.”
Buck expected some variation of this answer, but the inflection in Eddie’s voice startles him briefly. “You’re not?”
“Nope,” Eddie replies easily, popping the P as he stands, slinging his bag over his shoulder. “I completely agree with you. I’m a sucker for blue eyes.” He then has the audacity to walk away, leaving Buck short-circuiting in his wake.
There is no way he just…
“Eddie, wait!”
Buck starts to jog after him.
“What do you—”
Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom.
Buck then watches in horror as the ground opens up, taking his entire world with it.

“Buck's mind keeps wandering back to a night spent on Eddie’s couch, which feels like it happened a couple of lifetimes ago, when Eddie had stared at the ceiling and apologized for not being able to go into his room while he was in the coma, even though he was in the hospital most of the time.
He wonders if that’s how he felt, something trapping him inside dull walls and gray floors.
Because Buck can’t move.
Can’t leave.
But he’s not sure would be able to sit by Eddie’s bed while feeling as raw as he does right now, either.
He just knows he needs to stay because Eddie and Christopher are somewhere in there, and that means he can’t go.
It feels like he’s trapped in a nightmare. He’s been in it since he noticed Eddie’s car.
He’s not even sure how long he’s been there, all he knows is the sticky feeling the rain has left on his skin.”

Summary
“The results do point to malignancy.”
Eddie had to tell someone. He had been through enough to know what happened when he locked things in a box. He joined fight clubs and destroyed his room with baseball bats. He couldn’t do that, not to his kid or anyone else who cared about him.
Or:
Eddie has always known how to take care of everyone else. He’s just never had to figure out what to do when he’s the one who’s sick.
In September, that changes and Eddie finds himself in for the fight of his life. But he won’t be alone for a second.

“There’s a vagina,” Eddie whispers.
“I have a fucking vagina!”
He can’t take it anymore. Eddie takes a deep breath. “I’m going to get dressed,” he says, “And then– and then, I don’t know what, but we’re going to be normal and figure this out.”
“I’m being normal,” Buck argues, still sitting on the floor in front of the couch like an idiot. He smiles at Eddie brightly and the sun shines through the window in a way that makes his hair look golden – thoughts that would have never occurred to him before now.
It has a mind of it’s own and it’s getting to his fucking brain.
“No, you’re looking at my vagina like you want to fuck it. Stop doing that. You don’t get to fuck my vagina.”

He didn't expect to meet Evan Buckley, a man imprisoned for murder. It was supposed to be an easy assignment, something to put on his college applications. He never expected to fall in love.
