“Shane?” He toes his shoes off and sets the groceries down on the counter. Something feels wrong here. The TV is on in the den, louder than Shane normally likes it. His things are strewn all over the place, in a way that Shane would never allow if he was well, pathologically tidy. Not dirty, not necessarily. Just… messy.
The closer Ilya gets to the den, the stronger the smell becomes too. Sickeningly sweet. It’s enough to make his eyes water. Something inside of him, deep inside feels inexplicably drawn to it.
(He knows what it is. Logically, he knows what the smell is. But that can’t be what it is. Shane is a beta. Unless…)
Ilya whips the door open, bracing for the worst. To see Shane, wrapped around an omega, flushed and sweating and–
But all he sees is Shane.

Ilya turns his head to face him, nose smashing into the pillow as he does. Shane’s runs his finger across Ilya’s cheek when they finally make eye contact. Ilya squints. “What?” he asks. “Why are you practicing math in the bed? Only math here is for counting orgasms.”
Shane is biting back a smile, Ilya can tell. “Nineteen moles. On your back. I counted.”
