He is angry, forcing Steve to drag a confession out of him, and then his jealousy suddenly turns into a game of power and submission. Steve must admit his guilt (even if it doesn't exist) and atone for it first on his knees on the damp ground, and then on the creaky bed, his face buried in a pillow. The punishment will be cruel, but far too pleasurable to say 'red'.

He can’t breathe.
The tail yanks, and suddenly his back is slamming into the hard ground, the impact detonating every wound. He feels it all, and it’s agony. Ripping, shredding. The worst pain he’s ever known.
His heart stutters and kicks in his chest as his mind screams at him to get back up, to run, to do anything to survive; but he can’t. He’s pinned down, spread eagle on the dead ground, a storm of wings and teeth closing in.
Red lightning flashes above him, bathing everything in crimson, reminding him that he is in literal Hell.
He’s being eaten alive, and all he can think as the pain starts to blur is, I’m not ready.
Please. Not like this. Not now.

And then, from somewhere above all the madness that has become Eddie’s entire existence, a shape plunges into the wild fray. A human shape. An avenging angel, wielding a weathered baseball bat filled with bloody nails like it's a prayer in the dark.

Summary
Hawkins, Texas. 1874. A small town with nothing much to attract attention. For the people that live there, like Steve Harrington, heir to the Harrington Ranch, it’s home. For anyone else, it’s just another place to pass through on the way deeper into the Wild West. Strange then that two newcomers would arrive on the same day, and send the town and its people into a spiral.
First, Doctor Martin Brenner – promising jobs in some new mines, despite it being common knowledge that Hawkins’s hills are dry of anything precious.
And second, Eddie Munson, a mystery man searching for something precious of his own. He wants nothing from anyone, even if he keeps finding himself smack-bang in the middle of trouble he could use all the help he can get getting out of.
To Steve, none of this can be a coincidence. Something is going on that he and the rest of his posse need to get to the bottom of, in order to keep their town safe. Getting close to Eddie proves difficult, much as Steve feels drawn to him. Getting answers out of Brenner seems impossible. But if he can’t find a way to do one or the other, the home he cares for so much might be wiped right off the map.

Summary
Steve is thirteen when the baby comes. Her eyes bright and her smile all encompassing, even when it’s gummy and soft and more of a muscle spasm than actual intention. He’s a newly minted teenager, and shouldn't care about the chubby bundle and the way it disrupts his life as he knows it. Should be annoyed or throw a tantrum like a once spoiled child starved of attention.
He doesn’t do any of that.
Instead what happens is when his parents tentatively place the bundle in his arms he just immediately falls in love.
Completely and utterly, right then and there, his sole purpose in life becomes to keep her safe.
“This is your sister,” they explain. “Buffy.”
“Hey, Buff,” he greets her for the first time. “I’m going to protect you.”

A tall, slender man is strolling in, decked out in a fishnet top and ripped jeans just like Robin's. Chunky silver decorates his hands and neck, glinting as he bobs his head and mimics a guitar riff no one but he can hear. He stops when he sees the three of them, a goofy grin spreading across his face.
"Morticia, Birdie!"
"Kas, I was just thinking of you."
Alyssa extends her hand as the man dramatically bows to kiss her knuckles. Robin gets the same treatment. He straightens when he reaches Steve.
"And who is this lovely creature?"
That heat returns as those big eyes roam Steve's face. The smell of high quality leather wafts in the air, mixing with something floral he can't put his finger on. It's an odd smell, but it mixes well.
"That's Orchid, he's new," Robin offers in his place.
Kas's arms sweep out as he does another deep bow with a silly grin.
"Welcome to the house of sin!"

At the same time, the boy hoists the bottle up again, wraps his pink lips around the rim, and takes a swig, then intentionally sticks his tongue out—and fucking hell. He has a tongue piercing, the silver catching the light against the pink of his tongue. It’s obscene, is what it is. The guy grins widely when he knows he has Billy’s attention. He very deliberately licks a stripe up the neck of the bottle to its rim, then tightens his lips around it and gently sucks on it, eventually making a show of pulling it out of his mouth with a pop, choosing to wink at Billy for the finale of his little spectacle. Never breaking the eye contact. Tilting his head toward some less crowded corner of the room, the guy slips through dancing, sweating bodies, leaving Billy just incredibly amused.
…Huh. That’s the clearest sign Billy’s ever received in his entire lifetime.
