Summary
There was often a sense of lonely helplessness when you knew you were about to lose a man in the field, or any patient for that matter. It was loud and palpable—explosive even—despite death being such a silent entity. Sometimes, there was fear, other times, resignation. There needn't always be obvious grave injury; you could take one look and see it in the glistening rheum of a person’s eyes, or the cracked paleness of their lips. They were about to die in your charge, at your knee in the mud and curdled muck, or in an already death-soiled cot, and there was nothing more you could do to prevent it.
Geoffrey McCullum had that look about him now, though he was still fighting for his last, laboured breath.
Grievance of the self. Denial seeping slowly into acceptance.

“Answer something for me now,” Din said. He slipped two fingers under Cobb's low-slung belt and tugged him forward. Untucked the front of his shirt, slid his hand up the back to feel the dip of Cobb's spine. “Does it bother you… that I'm leaving tomorrow?”
Cobb brought one hand up to the side of Din’s neck, grip firm and warm and skin-seeking. Din wanted to flinch, he should, but he pulled Cobb closer, didn’t he? At a single graze of Cobb’s thumb along his jaw, Din’s nerves lit up. He wanted this, desired Cobb, and he couldn’t really deny it any longer—had already choked off that part of himself that needed to remain unknown. Only for tonight.
“No.” The hush of Cobb's voice pulled at the edges of that void within Din again, spinning sutures to close it up. “Not lookin’ for strings, don't worry.”
There were many things Cobb had told Din over the past few days, which Din suspected of being embellishments or recollection made prettier for an altruistic stranger's benefit. But this might've been the first time Din was sure Cobb was outright lying to him.

Summary
Just as he was getting used to his new position as the commander of the Inquisition’s army, a massive upheaval came when Cullen met—under perhaps some of the worst circumstances two people could hope to meet—Aridhel Lavellan, the only other survivor of the Inquisitor’s clan following their grim fate in Wycome.
A fate sealed with Cullen’s poor discernment in the matter. If this was the Maker’s will, he must have the cruelest sense of humour.
But now, he was growing used to Aridhel's company as well. Far too used to it, maybe.
At Felan’s behest, Aridhel had stayed on with the Inquisition, and thereupon became a sharp thorn in Cullen’s side. That irritation eventually dulled with time, and they’d forged an unusual camaraderie. His fighting prowess proved a boon to the Inquisition’s army, and Cullen…well, he found he quite enjoyed running their soldiers through drills with Aridhel by his side.
He wasn’t sure when his feelings deepened past tenuous friendship, nor what he should do about it, if anything at all. Cullen was not even certain whether what he was feeling was merely confused admiration for the man, guilt, or something more than a passing infatuation. -

I wasn't too happy with how the writers treated Morgan: first, she was this kick-ass lady who read people like books, and then she was this smug b*tch who baited Kent... so I decided to diverge from that canon.
This is tagged as a casefic - which it is - but I used it as a pretext to examine Joe's relationship with Kent, Morgan and Anderson. But especially with Kent...
I borrowed some references from S4 and the plot will make more sense to you if you have watched the show in its entirety. Enjoy!Disclaimer: I am not a therapist, policeman, pathologist, GP, rabbi, detective, etc, so please kindly suspend your disbelief. I have tagged for explicit sex and some of it under-negotiated, but it's ALL CONSENSUAL, and all between Chandler/Kent.
There are plenty of references to real facts of history, art, etc: some are accurate, some are less so...I do not own the characters although I wish I did.
