"Wait a second. Peter, was the Stark internship just a cover for being Spider-Man?"
Peter winces. "Yeah."
In a masterful act of self-control, Ryland refrains from swearing once more. "Are you saying he encouraged it?"
"No! Okay, well, just a little. But not really? I swear, Mr. Stark didn't do anything wrong!" Peter stammers. "He—"
"I've heard enough," he says firmly, cutting him off. Internally, though, Ryland wants to scream; maybe bash his head against a wall for good measure. Of course, what happened during college would come back to bite him; of course, it would. Because why would good things ever happen to him?
Or: Ryland Grace finds out that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. Consequently, he meets with Tony Stark for the first time in years, roughly two decades after their college hookup. This is a problem.

Summary
It’s been nearly 27 years since Eva Stratt forced Ryland Grace to board the Hail Mary and sent him off to his death for the greater good of mankind. Meanwhile, Eva and the Project Hail Mary team have been fighting a losing battle against the cooling sun—and their own demons—trying to make sure there were still people to be saved by the time the crew could send a solution home. Right on schedule, the beetles are returning to Earth, hopefully with the answer to saving the world. So, every day is just bickering all day long and screaming behind the counter.
