George turns the baseball around and around in his hand, alternating grips. Two-seam, four-seam, split change. His nails are neat where they dig into the stitching, thumb sweeping languidly along the scuffed leather. The goosebumps are back on Alex’s forearms.
“I had media,” George says, “and then treatments.”
Alex nods.
“And then,” the baseball stills in George’s palm. “I saw your glove in your locker.”
Alternatively: It’s easy not to be romantic about baseball after it’s kicked Alex in the gut half a dozen times. It’s a bit harder not to be romantic about George Russell.

After synchronous breakups, Pete and Patrick meet though a naive Gabe, but a job offer, a pair of well-meaning-but-suspicious boyfriends, and a pretentious book aren’t making things easy.
It’s story about a music journalist fresh out of college and a corporate lawyer falling in and out of love, in which navigating young adulthood is just as complicated as it seems.Goddamn, man-child.

Here’s the thing about Pete: He is a mistake from Patrick’s past that he can’t stop making, a bad habit he just can’t kick. There was a time, way back when, that Patrick really believed that Pete was the key to all his dreams and he believed, however unwillingly, that Pete saw him as the key to his. Those times are long in the past.
Now, Pete isn’t the boy who wants to conquer the world with Patrick’s voice—he’s the man he meets once a year, give or take, when he comes home for Christmas, and fucks, hot and desperate and hungry. Nothing deep, nothing meaningful, but nonetheless inevitable.

There is no phrase Pete hates more in the world than ‘So, Pete…’
‘So, Pete…” never ends well. ‘So, Pete…’ usually means that the person asking knows more than he does, and they’re just trying to trap Pete into explaining his side of the story just for the sake of torturing him.
...with Patrick, there’s no such thing as expectations. Patrick is instant pleasure. The kissing, the fucking, the songwriting, the friendship. It’s so present. It’s so tangible and Pete can feel it, can smell it, taste it and hear it and see it.
There’s no fucking ‘So, Pete’ here.
Patrick is probably the only thing in Pete's life going right. But when Pete's cousin catches Pete and Patrick in a heated moment, everything gets flipped onto its head when Pete is forced to decide whether or not Patrick means more to him than the approval of his family.
(OR: pete kinda hates himself and kinda loves smoking cigarettes, patrick knows his worth and he sticks to it, there are lots of references to general caribbeanness, joe is the comedic relief, and when harry met sally is the best movie in the world)
