Summary
“Burdock,” Haymitch says, still unsure if this is real or not. It’s been decades since they last spoke. Their final interaction had few words, with Burdock saying as little to him as possible after showing Haymitch where Lenore Dove had been buried.
“I thought you were supposed to be visiting her,” is the first thing Haymitch thinks to say.
Burdock, who is still catching his breath, scowls. “We just finished. I told Asterid to take Prim back to the house.”
Haymitch frowns. “How was it?”
Burdock glares at him. “Like I’m sending my baby girl off to be slaughtered on live TV.”
Haymitch, unsure of what to say to that, only coughs.

In a second everything changed. Peeta's even heartbeats exploded forward like the Capitals trains, Effie squeaked in shock, the crowd gasped, but none of it mattered. Because Katniss was smiling. Not the sweet fake smile she gave Snow, not the soft smile he had seen her give Prim, but a proud smile. The smile she’d worn when she’d drugged him in the first Games so she could go to the feast. The smile of a plan accomplished.

On the seventy-fifth anniversary, as a reminder to the rebels that even the strongest among them cannot overcome the power of the Capitol, the male and female tributes will be taken from those who have already survived a Reaping.
It comes as a relief to know that there will at least be one less tribute this year. District 12 has only one surviving victor. Rue doesn't understand President Snow's careful choice of words until later, when she's on a train barreling towards the Capitol, back into the Games. She watches the recap in her cabin, sees Haymitch Abernathy step up when his name is called, and then her heart stops because there is Katniss's sister standing beside him. "Those who have already survived a Reaping." It was because of Katniss that Primrose survived her reaping, and Katniss who sacrificed herself so that Rue could live. What will either of them do now without her?

Haymitch felt his whole body stiffen and his breathing sped up. This couldn't be a coincidence, could it? Or maybe it was. He didn't have time to think about it. Without waiting another second, he started to move with fast strides. He didn't say anything, but everyone moved out of his way without question. In his periphery, he could see Peeta following in his step, but he didn't acknowledge him.
He reached the center path before Declan had even reached the row of sixteen-year-olds. "Shall I wait for the official protocol to be called, or can I just volunteer?" he called out, aiming his words straight at Metal, staring her in the eyes from where he stood. "I could also wait if you wish me to, but personally, I'd rather be past it if you don't mind."

"I've never had a strawberry," she says quietly. "Daddy said he would try to get me some for my birthday. He said that they'd be covered in chocolate. But he's dead." Not for the first time, Haymitch wishes he were someone else. Someone who would know how to respond to what Katniss just said. Someone who, currently, wasn't trying to figure out if the nausea building up in his throat was from his new situation or the hangover that he'd ignored because of it. Someone like Burdock.
"I could get you strawberries and chocolate for your birthday," Haymitch says.
She tears her eyes away from the table, and once again, her cool grey eyes meet his. She nods slowly. In a whisper so low he has to strain his ears to hear her, she says "You're not my daddy."
His throat closes, and he thinks he feels tears sting his eyes. Haymitch runs a hand through his long hair and lets out a shaky breath. "I know. But I'm here," he responds.

Summary
As the title suggests, a series of unrelated fics that take place between the end of Mockingjay and the Mockingjay Epilogue, but with everything (flashback of the PAIN Suzanne Collins put us through) from Sunrise on the Reaping playing a big role.
These are all Haymitch-centric, at least for now; so far they are all also character studies, and plots focus on Haymitch's dynamic with Katniss and Peeta. There's some mild hurt/comfort, and many, many internal monologues of a depressing variety which I enjoy writing perhaps a little more than I strictly should.

Summary
While Haymitch is recovering from the injuries he suffered during his Games, he considers the drug pump in his chest a blessing. At least it takes away the pain and dampens his horror.
After his injuries are healed, though, he discovers that helping him recover was only part of the pump’s purpose. The Capitol continues using it to keep him in check, like they did with Lou Lou. And, furthering the similarities between her and him, the Capitol also took the liberty of implanting an audio transmitter in his ear. Their surveillance of him is far from over.
He has made himself an enemy of the Capitol and will be treated as such.
(In which Haymitch scares the Capitol a bit too much during his Games, and the Capitol takes measures to make sure he will never defy them again.)

Haymitch felt confident that this was another punishment dictated by Snow. How many names in that bowl were Burdock’s? Was it all of them? He felt an overwhelming urge to find out. It would be easy. All he had to do was knock the bowl on the ground and watch it break into a million pieces, the Capitol’s regime shattering with it as everyone realized that there were no odds to be in favor of. The outcome of the Games was manipulated from the start.

When Haymitch first wakes up on the day of the reaping, his only goal is to make it through his first year as a mentor without falling apart. After his former best friend is selected to be that year's male tribute, however, his goal becomes to stop the 51st Hunger Games before they even begin.
