"Dickhead?" Jason asks, voice softer than Dick's ever known it to be. "Are you awake, Rip Van Winkle?"
"Mmm," Dick manages. His voice is hoarse and raspy, muffled even to his own ears with the mask pressed over his face. He wants to say something else, but all he manages is a slurred selection of incoherent syllables when he tries. Jason laughs sharply. Dick knows it's supposed to come across as aloof, but he can hear the concern hidden beneath the facade. It makes his lips twitch into a faint smile.

The boy's face is swollen, bruised and bloodied, Bruce's stomach twisting at the sight. His arms, bound behind his back at the wrists, have stopped struggling against the ropes, his body slumped listlessly against the floor and his lips partially open to allow blood to trickle forth.
