“Might as well just say it: at the risk of you kicking me out, I live here. In that case,” and he pointed over to Louis’s case on the floor next to the dresser. Oh my god, Louis’ case. What. “I’m your guitar,” he finished.
Niall just stared at him. “You’re my guitar. For real.”
“Yep,” he nodded.
In a world where 1D never even tried out for The X Factor and where people have magic to a limited extent that isn't all that cool or showy, Niall is still a musician who's just finished his first headlining tour and is about to begin work on his second major label album. After taking two weeks off and after a pretty terrible/wonderful dream, he wakes up the next morning to find that his absolute favourite, most beloved and oldest guitar, which he's baptized Louis and which he might be a little too attached to, has transformed into a human (though he's actually been alive for a while now).

“Listen. You can do whatever you’d like, but you told me that you were going to be taking a year of your life living here— in Italy, right?” He looks into Liam’s eyes for confirmation, squeezing gently into his shoulder. “Right?”
Liam nods. He shivers at the realization that he’s going to be here for a year. His pilgrimage has only just begun. He hadn’t really thought about how much a year could change a person—perhaps even a week. He can already tell by the end of this conversation with Niall, change may come more quickly.

“I don’t like dogs,” Bucky says.
“I know you don’t like dogs,” Louis says with a smile. “We’ll have to work on that.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah,” Louis says, stroking his thumb over Bucky’s metal wrist. It’s a light touch, but sometimes that’s almost worse, and Bucky shudders as his mechanoreceptors go a little haywire from the unexpected contact.
Bucky rolls and he rolls until he changes his luck.

“There’s not much to get,” Niall assures him, smiling as he passes the peppers.
Louis wishes that were true, that Niall was really that simple. To Louis, he’s a puzzle- not one of those one hundred or five hundred piece ones. No, Niall is a one thousand piece puzzle, and no matter how many pieces Louis connects: there’s always more. He’s intriguing and exciting and ridiculous but he makes Louis’ stomach roll in pleasant waves as he listens to him talk. And that’s something.
It’s more than something, and Louis is glad that he asked for a redo.
