Goro's anger has always been an all-consuming inferno, which burns hotter than the fires of hell. He's never met anyone with a fury to challenge his particular flavor of blind fury (except maybe Shido, but fuck that guy).
And then Akira waltzes into Goro's life; a literal volcano just waiting to explode.
Akira sparks the embers of rebellion that Goro had long thought suppressed under Shido's oppressive thumb, and suddenly he's being encompassed in a wildfire that he never wants to escape.

Akira's world is a bitterly cold wasteland. Any warmth that exists is quickly snuffed out by the sub-zero temperatures, preventing anyone from getting close to his brittle heart. He remembers learning about absolute zero in his middle school science class: the temperature at which the motion of molecules in a solid virtually ceases.
Akira's been at absolute zero for a long time now. His mind going into freeze state in an effort to protect him.
Who knew, all it would take to unthaw him is a little love and care?

Since he crafted the plan to take revenge upon the man who abandoned his mother to fend for herself when he was born, sending her spiraling into depression and eventually committing suicide. Since he approached his father with a proposition to use his abilities in the Metaverse to help Shido climb the political ladder to the top, and was handed a gun in return and told to kill a researcher's Shadow in the Metaverse.
Since he became a murderer.
Goro hates what he's been turned into. He hates the dirty work he does for his father, all in the name of vengeance, but he can't stop now. Not when he's so close to completing his goals.
Fate, it seems, has other plans.

It's just that he was born and raised in a frozen wasteland, with parents who think emotions are frivolous and taught him to never ever show what he was feeling. Akira had to learn to adapt, and eventually, his heart froze too.
Now, he's been arrested, blamed for something he didn't do, and slapped with a criminal record. He's getting shipped off to Tokyo where no one will know who he is. Where no one will care who he is.

When Kuroyashi Rin is transferred to Shujin Academy following a very public mental breakdown at his last school, the staff immediately tries to shove him and Kurusu Akira, the other new transfer student together, because they can't be bothered to offer proper counseling to troubled students like they're supposed to. But Rin feels an immediate connection to Akira, a kindred spirit he's never felt with anyone else, even his best friend and sister in all but blood, Himura Akane. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that Akira has the same emotional detachment that Rin struggles with, that makes connecting with others and forming bonds of friendship difficult.

The first thing his eyes catch on are the enormous stone doors standing ajar in the middle of the room. There are horrifying carvings of torture, death, and despair on each door, and beyond it lies a swirling chasm of empty, cold nothingness so deep and dark Dororo feels it goes on forever.
And then he notices the man standing with his feet just barely on the ground, suspended by a rope attached to the ceiling and tied to his wrists, directly in front of the doors, his head bowed, a sheathed katana loosely clutched in one of his strangely blocky hands. He’s dressed strangely, wearing clothes that wouldn’t be out of place pre-Meiji period, with long black hair pulled up in a ponytail. -
