Summary
Castiel and Dean meet for the first time on a plane ride out of Nowhere, Alaska. Castiel’s headed home after an impulsive solo vacation and Dean, a hardened Alaskan native, is just trying to get out of the impossibly small town he grew up in that’s got nothing left to offer him. They forge an instant connection over Dean’s flying anxiety and whiskey, a meet-cute that has all the makings of a rom-com with a sickeningly sweet happy ending. That is, until their plane explodes in mid-air, crashing headlong into the Alaskan wilderness and killing everyone on board save for Dean and Castiel. When no rescue shows up to save them, the two men are forced to make some tough decisions. To make it home alive they’ll have to trust each other and find faith neither of them has ever really wanted. Will they survive or succumb to the unforgiving mountain wilderness? And will their journey tear them apart... or bring them closer together?

“Y’all are sweet,” she says, and nods to indicate him and Cas. “Is he your—are you all together?”
Dean’s still contemplating how to answer this without saying something offensive—he never has figured out a polite way to say “no homo”—when Cas answers for him. Cas doesn’t even look up from his plate, his mouth full of baklava and some stray flakes of phyllo dough sticking to his lips when he says, “Yes.”
Dean feels more than sees Sam go very still across the table, forkful of salad and grilled chicken poised in midair.

The eyes of the witch twitch and a hungry look appears on her face, when she reaches out to tug on the hem of Dean’s jacket.
“No, I don’t think there’s anything funny about that”, she purrs and Dean cringes when her finger starts to circle over his chest, “Losing love like that, it’s not funny at all, I can promise you. I wanted to do to them the same thing they did to me. I wanted to take away what they thought was strong enough to justify hurting me like that. But when I saw them…I wanted to see them bleeding. I wanted to see them choke on their lies.” Cooking her head to the side, she lets out a giggle and a trail of blood triples out of her mouth and down her chin, “What a waste of magic. But now that I think about it…”

During a hunt Dean barely manages to avoid the attack of a crazy witch. Everything seems alright, so they get back home and apart from a mean headache, Dean is okay. At least he thinks that, until he wakes up to his angelic best friend in his bed and no memories of a full year of their relationship.

Summary
Cas huffs and shakes his head, but he doesn’t seem to be interested in engaging in further discussion, so he just opens the book again and says without looking at him: “Good night, Dean.”
That’s all. Dean rolls his eyes and pushes himself up from the table, shoving the book a little rougher than necessary into the shelf and because he is a little shit and has to have the last word, he turns towards Cas again.
“So, I’m not getting a good night kiss then?”

When Dean discovers the ritual of Cas giving Jack a good night kiss, he teases the shit out of the angel. He doesn't expect for Cas to tease back. He also doesn't expect how much he likes it.

Cas’s mouth drops open. Motionless like a statue he stays right there where he is, his hand still reaching out in Dean’s direction, eyes jumping between Dean’s face and the silver ring. When he doesn’t say something, Dean clears his throat. He had prepared a speech for this, he knows he did, but the only thing he’s saying is:
“Yeah. Consider yourself married now.”
Not a question. Not a proposal. Just cold, hard facts.

Well, Dean most certainly doesn't handle Cas' death very well and so somehow he ends up grieving in his own special way: by building a home and praying that one day he will share it with someone very particular.
Deep down Dean knows it's a futile hope and probably not really healthy to cling onto it so desperately, but at the end of the day dreams occasionally come true, even for a Winchester.
