George wooed Winona with Christmas cards when they were at the Academy. Can Jim pull off the same stunt with Spock?
Written for the 2012 ksadvent on Livejournal. Based on this lovely prompt: Winona Kirk was once a feisty career-minded cadet with a love of engineering and no plans to settle down. A deeper relationship with her best friend George Kirk was a temptation she wouldn’t allow herself. Then one Christmas George won her over with a series of 12 days of letters and gifts which proved how well he knew her and how deep his feelings were. He kept up the tradition of writing a letter to Winona every Christmas. Winona discovers her son’s feelings for Spock (on Thanksgiving visit?) and decides it’s the perfect time to give Jim his dad’s letters. Jim is thrilled to learn about George through his letters and inspired to follow his example in order to woo an oblivious Spock. This could be Academy era AU or set aboard Enterprise.

This story is dedicated to Alice Nox, whose story, Broken City; I couldn’t get out of my mind, even a year later! Special thanks to Wingstar and Painted Bird for talking me off the cliff.
Jim Kirk had all but forgotten Tarsus IV and then his nightmares began, estranging Spock and everyone he holds dear. Are the nightmares merely flashbacks or is there something more sinister? This story is a metaphor for alienation, loss, and fear. Originally, the challenge was to make something interesting of the episode, Spock’s Brain. Well, it clawed its way into something else.
