On the night that Arthur learns of Merlin’s magic, a witchfinder is brought to Camelot. Fearing for his life and his chances of escape from the castle, Merlin turns to his last option. To travel through Nimheu’s Mirror, an indestructible artefact left behind when Nimheu fled Camelot at the start of the purge, said to have taken sorcerers away from the fear of the pyre, never to be seen again. On the other side, Merlin does not quite find the safe haven he was expecting. He is back in Camelot. But not his Camelot. An older Camelot, a harsher Camelot, with an older and harsher King to rule her. He cannot go back, he can only go on. But how? And what will his own Camelot do without him?

Summary
Merlin’s mother had made it very clear to him what he should do when she sent him off to Camelot. Merlin wasn’t to tell anyone he had magic, his mother was scared that he would be collared to keep him in line if someone found out. Yet, Camelot was, above all, one of the best places for an alpha warlock to be. In Essitir, the omega king would drag alphas off to his palace once they were old enough, claim them, and use them for their powers. It was a fate that Merlin’s mother had feared him facing since he presented at twelve summers old. It was why, on the eve of his eighteenth summer, she sent him away to the bordering kingdom before Cenred’s men could show up in Elador to take him away. In Camelot Merlin could have a future.
It was a more hopeful future than what he would have in any other kingdom.
Other than Essitir and Camelot, all other kingdoms executed alphas who had magic, mated or not, too afraid of what they could do. Camelot had done the same, once, but that had changed when the Queen had fallen for an alpha sorceress and had taken her as her mate, changing the law to allow mated magical alphas to live in peace.
All Merlin had to do was catch an omega....

“Don’t you dare touch him,” Merlin growled, “Arthur Pendragon is mine.”
A tall, red-haired woman stepped forward, taking the lead of the group. She looked ethereal in the bright afternoon light. Her face was too perfect, too symmetrical to be completely human, and a strange glint shone in her green eyes. She was alluring, moving with controlled grace. When she spoke, her voice echoed, as if it came from all around them at once.
“You haven’t claimed him yet, not the proper way at least,” she retorted, her hungry gaze still trained on Arthur.

There is also a murder. Possibly magic. Definitely a conspiracy. But mostly, this is about a man who has been in love for fifteen centuries trying to hold it together in a pub while Arthur Pendragon sits pressed against his leg and has no idea.
