Avid's not the one who was ever meant to face the vampires they hunt directly. It's a dangerous trade, after all and his best skill were his sharp wits, as opposed to her skills with the crossbow.
But fate had other plans, and now that he'd been bitten, Oakhurst seems like the place he'll belong forever more.
Or...
Avid was bitten instead of his partner, making him one of the starting vampires but he's a completely unprepared fledgling.

That's hard.But being a cat?
Now that's easy.If only those annoying adults would stop pestering Izuku to stay human when he would much prefer to stay as a cat.
But at least humans have some decent perks, like milk, chocolate, fast food, video games, and hoodies.
And it really does help that humans practically worship cats, especially those training to be heroes it seems.
Hopefully he won't mind too much that he's being forced into becoming a hero too then?

Curiosity killed the cat, but what's it do to the bat?
Exploring crypts is a great way to find all kinds of things. Alchemical recipes, spells, bones, colds. However, this time he's found something new - a book meant for vampire abilities. He's curious, it's the first one he's managed to get his hands on that wasn't going to be burnt. It'll be perfect for Cleo or Apo, but first he wants to get a proper look at it.
This changes everything. He might not be a vampire, but he's not really fully human anymore either.

“What?” He shouts, digging his claws into Avid’s arms. Then, quieter, “What do you mean, ‘act’?”
Avid looked around, whispering, “You-You were nervous about Scott thinking we were working together, so I said we should pretend I was holding you hostage! So it looked like we were still enemies!”
“You what?!” Pyro shouted, uncaring if someone heard his frustrated yelling.
“I don’t know!” Avid squeaked. “I panicked!”
“That’s—“ But the longer Pyro thinks about it, the more he holds hope it might work. But… no, this would be betrayal, and he must not betray his Sire! But if it does, he could speak to Apo—or the doctor—he could find a cure. This would be the second time he lied. There is no home to return to with the humans, Sire is correct. He always is. But he doesn’t…
