It was like an itch. If nothing was done about it, eventually, it would go away. Fade into the background, like a ticking clock, or a buzzing lightbulb. Sometimes, however, it was too much: The clock became the only thing he could hear, slowly chipping away at his carefully crafted mentality. Someone would point out the clock, and he would have to say he couldn’t even hear one.
The buzzing hurt his head. The light was too bright.
Much too bright. Not like how the sun provided sanctuary from the dark, how it shines off water, or how it rises every day, despite sadness— despite war. Not how his classmates shine. Not how they fill the sky with explosions and fire and lightning.

Like that day in the hospital, when he’d been afraid to reach out, would it be similar? If he finally kissed Kirishima and he tasted like stardust, would that drastically change things? Would Kirishima pull away? Were there rules about that?
