Summary
As always, Tommy made sure to wear thick sweaters and heavy overalls, covering every spare inch of skin with fabric. For the most part, it worked. No one knew he was a pufferfish hybrid. They just thought he was a loud, boisterous kid who didn’t like being touched. They didn't even notice the tiny spines on his face, now that puberty and stress had mercifully covered his cheeks in acne.
One morning, Tubbo tried to grab Tommy’s hand. The ram hybrid ended up heaving over a bucket for the next few hours. There was no fresh milk in Pogtopia, so there was nothing they could do but wait for the nausea to pass.
It was the last time Tommy let anyone get close enough to make that mistake.
Or: Tommy, a pufferfish hybrid, hasn't properly touched anyone in years. Techno is beginning to realize this.

Techno looks at the grandfather clock in the corner and frowns. He clears his throat. “So uh, while I’m not against gettin’ a jump start on spring cleanin’, do you think it could wait until after seven in the mornin’?”
Phil freezes at the sound of his voice and whirls around. He stares at Techno like he can’t quite believe what he’s seeing, eyes practically bugging out of his head. His wings stretch up and out in a way that’s a bit…strange, if Techno’s going to be honest. Ever since the accident, Phil has made it a point to keep them folded tight in order to prevent the sensitive joints from knocking against any surfaces.
But then Phil’s face lights up in a way that Techno hasn’t seen in years, drawing his attention back to the man in question. “Techno!” Phil gasps. He practically skips across the room and wraps his arms and wings around Techno’s middle in a bone-crushing embrace. Techno doesn’t quite catch the hoggish squeal that it chokes out of him. “Oooo, it’s been so long! Good to see you!”

Phil turns around. A roll of bandages falls from his hand and to the floor. A quiet gasp echoes in the room.
He smiles at him, and then his gaze catches on his own arm. It’s already bandaged, for some reason. Interesting. He hadn’t caught that before. Red is seeping through at a rapid pace; it should probably be changed anyway.
“Hi, Phil,” he says. “Tada!” He throws in some jazz hands for good measure. “That’s a neat trick, isn’t it? No clue how I’m doing it, but I like it a lot. I’m a bird now, Phil. Caw caw, motherfucker.”
Wilbur returns to life on a warm Thursday morning. Somehow, this almost comes secondary to the fact that he seems to have picked up a new skill.
(Or: Wilbur comes back, immediately discovers that he can shapeshift now, for some reason, and goes to tell Phil about it. Phil, meanwhile, is just trying to roll with the punches, and Wilbur's hardly making it easy.)

Tommy steps on a twig. It’s an annoying, good for nothing, twig. It shouldn’t even be there. It looks like someone left it behind when gathering wood. No matter the reason, it’s there and Tommy steps on it.
The figure stiffens. The soft sobs quiet until there’s an unnerving silence.
Then they look up, face twisted into something so full of terror that Tommy flinches. Their face is red, tears spilling down their cheeks. The fear on their face paints it into a morbid picture, one Tommy can’t look away from.
Tubbo stiffens from beside him.
