Summary
After the events of War Crimes, Sokka and Zuko have escaped Zhao’s warship and are fleeing across the Earth Kingdom. As well as unfamiliar terrain, they have to navigate their shared trauma, work out where they fit into the war, and their place in each others lives.
Sokka is aware that being friends with the enemy is going to bring complications, but he probably should have guessed that being friends with Zuko in particular, was going to be a bit like dunking your head repeatedly into a bucket of angry Fire Ferrets.
Katara is also grappling with the confusion of befriending an enemy, something that doesn’t prove as difficult as she had expected with the bond of shared, furious grief bridging old wounds. (Learning a new way to look at her bending doesn't hurt either)
Azula, struggling with the Fire Lord’s mistrust, encounters a few nasty surprises and has to make some difficult decisions. Luckily, she is a great deal better at making sensible choices than her brother.
Her father may have made a slight tactical error.

“Your touch,” Megumi says, then cuts off, sounding frustrated. He moves Satoru’s hand so that it’s pressed against his chest, right over his heart, and Satoru lets him, curious where this is going and simultaneously touched by how gentle Megumi is being.
Satoru lifts a brow, regarding Megumi as the boy seems to struggle with what he wants to say.
“Your touch,” Megumi starts again, lifting his gaze to stare resolutely at Satoru. “I can’t feel it.”
And oh. Satoru feels his mouth go dry, because of course the boy has to be exactly like him, down to the same love language. Of course.

Nanako watches a calloused hand freeze mid-page flip, the other tightening white around his favorite book's cover. Then, as if nothing happened, he completes the action, exhaling softly out of his nose.
"Hm...He was my best friend. But we fought and it's been like this ever since."
It's a solemn answer, one Nanako would have gladly accepted from her father and savior...if only she hadn't heard the sound of his name falling from Geto's lips years prior. She and Mimiko exchange knowing looks.
"Just your best friend?"
Nanako hears her dad choke.

Geto Suguru insists he and his ex-best friend have grown apart since he left Jujutsu Tech. Nanako and Mimiko remember things a little differently.

Satoru nods. Doesn’t take his hand back. “I haven’t been able to make it fully subconscious. It triggers depending on how much of a threat the incoming object is, how much cursed energy it has, if—”
Suguru whacks him on the side of the head.
Satoru splutters, drops his hand to press his fingertips to his skull. “Hey!” he whines. Pouting again. “Why’d you do that?”
He shrugs. “I thought Infinity would trigger, O great Six Eyes.”
To Suguru’s surprise, there’s nothing joking or teasing in his face when he says, “You would never be a threat to me.”
"Seriously? Yeah we get it, you're strong. You really don't have to be an ass about—"
Satoru takes both of his hands, so sudden that Suguru loses his train of thought, all of his mind consumed by the burning points of contact. "You could kill me. You could. Infinity wouldn't stop you if you had a gun to my head. But you wouldn't." He says again, plain and clear, "You would never be a threat to me."

Summary
Geto turns, curling his lips up in a pleasant smile, the same smile he uses on the higher-ups when he tires of listening to them and just wants to shut them up quicker. For a split second, between one breath and the next, he considers giving in to it all. Slaughtering the entire village. Watching them scream at the hands of curses they can’t see, suffer from the same agony they put these small girls through. There’s a hot lick of shame in his stomach at the thought of it, as he seriously considers it, as he realizes that he’d enjoy it.
But when he exhales, it’s a soft “Would you please excuse me for a moment?” that comes out of his mouth instead. He has the distinct impression, as he pulls his phone out of his pocket, that he’s made a choice here, created a schism of some sort, that there was a binary here and that he’s sent himself careening down one of two paths. All he can do is hope that he’s fallen on the right side of it. Whatever the ‘right’ side even means anymore.
