Considering their unavailability to return to their own world, Zenitsu and Kanao decide to remain in Night Raven College as enrolled students, alongside Grim, of their own dorm, Ramshackle. Unfortunately, their first day of actually ever being in a school begins with one of their new acquaintances, Ace Trappola, declaring he was transferring to their dorm out of nowhere.
Truly, it seemed like even away from the battlefield, they cannot have a moment to rest.

Rudo doesn’t return it.
“Name’s Enjin,” he says. “I work with foster care and CPS. I take care of kids in situations like yours.”
The words land heavy. Cold. They sink into Rudo’s chest like stones dropped into water, the ripple slow but suffocating.

Rudo’s grip on the stuffed animal tightens.
There’s no one left to take care of him.
Understanding settles in, sharp and absolute.
He’s going back into the system.

As the door to the agency creaked open, the atmosphere shifted subtly. An elderly woman stepped inside, her silver hair pulled back in a tidy bun, revealing timeworn features that spoke of wisdom and kindness. She cradled a small child in her arms, both of them dressed in simple, everyday clothing. The child wore a green sweater adorned with playful animal ears and a tail. Still, his face was hidden shyly against the woman’s neck, suggesting a reluctance to engage with the unfamiliar surroundings.
“Excuse me,” the woman called out, her voice steady yet tinged with concern. “I’m looking for a detective.”
Kunikida, who had just finished his work ahead of schedule, noticed her and instinctively rose from his desk. With a polite demeanor, he approached the pair. “How may the Armed Detective Agency assist you, ma'am?” he inquired, his tone professional yet warm.
The woman offered a gentle smile. “Oh, hello, it’s about this boy I found.”

She answers with unintelligible babble.
He nods. “That’s what I thought.”

Ranpo’s laugh was a weak, wheezing thing, but it was there. The city blurred past, neon signs smearing into streaks of color, but Atsushi couldn't tear his eyes away from the two in the backseat. Dazai had curled around Ranpo like a shield, his free hand carding through the detective's hair with gentleness that made Atsushi's throat ache. It was an intimacy he hadn't known either of them was capable of, Dazai, who treated the world as a joke, and Ranpo, who treated it as a puzzle to be solved.

A mission at a bakery goes spectacularly sideways, leaving the Agency's resident genius fragile, bleeding, but aware of Dazai's motives.
