Summary
Bruce murmurs into the dark stillness of Dick’s pristine bedroom, “Whatever you want.”
As rich as Bruce is, Dick doesn’t think that's quite true. If Dick was free to ask for whatever he wanted, he would ask to go back to Haly’s and see his parents waving at him from the trapeze. But neither Bruce Wayne nor the Batman can make that happen, and that’s not helpful to anybody right now. Instead, Dick curls up with Bruce and listens to the steady heartbeat of his new life lull him into a dreamless sleep.
When he is nine, Dick leaves the spotlights, takes Bruce's hand and goes into the darkness.
“You mouth off to Batman like this? Or do you do this to everyone?” Slade chuckles, “Your teachers must love you.”
Robin tilts his head, “What teachers? Batman teaches me.”
“You know, the teachers at whatever godforsaken school you attend.”
“Oh.” There’s a flat tone to Robin’s response that has Slade twisting to look at him.
“You do go to school, right?”
“Uh.” Dick blinks, realizing he’s in a bit over his head. “Yes.”
“Really.” Slade says, equally flat. “Tell me when spring break is this year then.”

The bond between them which Luke had so stridently fought against at first now curled in fat ropes around them. In his mind’s eye, Luke could reach out and pet it— the joy, the pride, Vader’s yearning to be close— and feel the shiver of pleasure it elicited in his father when Luke accepted those feelings. Luke would not deny him, not this, not when Luke finally had someone who cared for him before all other things after going without his entire life.

Who, as you’ve briefed, is likely well within a berserk state. And you want me to fight him without killing him.”

Dick gets a call in the midst of his heat informing him that Bruce has been kidnapped and is likely compromised due to an Ivy concoction. Dick refuses to get any of his family involved, well aware how dangerous Bruce is when in a rage. Slade is unfortunately the only person Dick can think of that can go toe to toe with a feral Batman long enough for a rescue.
