Wayne had just quit smoking. He didn’t have the heart to look seven year old Eddie in the eyes and tell him that, though. He unwrapped it from the newspaper Eddie had taped around it, and nearly cried at the fact that he was important enough to him to get a handmade gift.
Besides, there’s plenty of uses for ashtrays, right?

Having Eddie’s body heat beside him helped a little bit but certainly not enough. He bites back on his molars to keep his jaw from chattering which makes his head hurt and he wishes there was some water so he could take a pain killer and he wishes Eddie wasn’t here and he wishes he was in his own bed and he wishes he never agreed to get off the mountain with Eddie even if it meant sleeping on resort couches all weekend or even worse, getting swept up in an avalanche just suffocating under the cold, cold, cold‒
“Will you just come here?” Eddie whispers.
or: ex-friends with benefits steve and eddie get caught up in a blizzard, forcing them to be alone for the first time since they broke things off. the snow is not the only thing that's falling hard.
