Summary
The tentative peace between the Hargreeves siblings and their father is disrupted when Klaus returns from an unexplained trip to the afterlife with his powers restored. In the ensuing struggle, Klaus could be Five’s greatest advantage, which turns him into Reginald’s number one target.
Hargreeves now remembers both his lifetimes, after all, and he is keenly aware that the most overlooked aspect of Klaus’ abilities could lead to his downfall.

Summary
With their new lives all set up and ready to go, the siblings all decide to go on a trip. Correction: all the other siblings invite themselves to Luther and Sloane's honeymoon road trip. They look up previously-lost loved ones, iron out some things that happened recently, and hit up as many tourist traps as possible (a renaissance faire, a haunted house, the self-explanatory Cowhenge).
Luther and Sloane start realizing how little they truly know about each other, but that’s nothing they can’t fix. Diego is still hyperprotective of Lila and now he's suddenly reluctant to let Klaus out of his sight. Lila is determined to have as wild a babymoon as she reasonably can. Viktor is trying to turn over a new leaf and become more trusting of his family. Ben starts finding himself. Klaus is desperate to stave off the existential dread that’s closing in. Sloane starts bonding with her new family. And Five is a vacation tyrant who is trying to just get through this trip before the other shoe drops.
Put that together with the odd phone call to an estranged sister, and you have a family putting itself painfully back together.

“If you get out there while you’re drugged there’s no telling what you’ll do,” Wylan said, pushing past Kaz to get back to his work station. “I’d think you'd want to avoid pulling the Dregs into this gang war.” He yanked a cabinet open and rummaged around for a pipette. Opened the vial. Drew out a drop. In his head he ran through the motions of the synthesis: he’d gotten close, before, with the blood sample. All he had to do now was see it through to the finish.
“I know that.” Kaz’s voice was nearly a snarl, but then again it always sounded like that. There was still time. “I mean, why didn’t you lock it from the outside?”
“Like that would stop you," Wylan scoffed. "You need an antidote. You said the others were dead within the hour.”
“Only after killing everyone in their vicinity, Merchling, did you forget that part?”

Above Wylan’s bony left ankle, metal gleams: a heavy iron manacle, welded to a long chain of links that snake behind him, clattering on the floor as he moves.
Jesper watches it, mouth open as everything he’d assumed shatters and comes back together in a new shape. “You’re a prisoner!” he blurts out.
Wylan twists sharply to look at him, face creased in a familiar aggravated scowl. “Are you an idiot?” he demands. “The locked door wasn’t a clue?”
There are new weapons appearing in the Barrel. Kaz sends Jesper undercover to find out where they’re coming from. Jesper finds something else entirely.
