He shouldn’t need to. He’s dead, isn’t he? But his eyelids peel open, squinting into the hazy fog, peering up at- freckles. Brown eyes. A long curtain of blond hair, hanging around him and the woman kneeling in front of his face. “...hh?”
“I know it’s a shock, baby,” the woman says, she’s smiling, but there are tears spilling from her eyes too, and her hands let go of his face to go under his shoulders and start lifting him up. “But if you don’t hurry, and he gets too far away, we’re really going to be in trouble.”
“If- who?”
“Luffy, sweetheart. We need to follow Luffy.”

Summary
“No one let us in,” Zoro complains. He’s still on the floor, wrapped up in- something, Kuina can’t quite tell with her vision only slowly coming back into focus. “There was a ladder hanging off the side that we climbed up, and the doors opened on their own!”
“...huh,” the first voice says. Blinking rapidly, Kuina can make out a top hat, and blue coat, and both her and Zoro’s swords tucked under one arm. Annoyed by that, she kicks free of her sheets and slides off the bed, opposite where Zoro is still struggling with his giggling assailant.
“We didn’t mean to intrude,” the girl announces, borrowing every ounce of stiff patience she’s ever seen her father wield. “If the storm is over, we’ll get back in our boat and leave.”
That top hat tips to one side as its owner regards her. “What boat?”
A few minutes later, Kuina finds herself staring dumbly over the ship’s railing at empty water.

If he were still in the habit of keeping a detailed medical logbook, Crocus would have started this past week’s entries with the line: I seem to have lost my little-remaining sanity.
In a span of six days, he’s gone from being alone with Laboon and his lighthouse duties, to a full inundation of teenagers and children claiming to be mentally adults (with hardly a lick of maturity or good manners to be seen), one functioning vessel beside the ramshackle remnants of what essentially amounted to a raft of scrap metal and sailcloth (which of course fell to pieces the moment they came screaming down the long slope of Reverse Mountain), and his own awakened memories of a future which has not yet come to pass, and now likely won’t, thanks to meddling from his aforementioned ‘guests’.
It’s the most entertainment he’s had in years.

See, even in a nice place like Corner Village, there are always some assholes ready to make trouble. And sure enough, a couple of thugs who usually have to be tossed out of the local bar after indulging too much are staggering up the docks, leering grins on their faces. “Oi, Hot Sails! Hand the bounty over!”
Hrm.
“Get in,” Vert says, letting go of the woman’s arm. “But don’t try to go anywhere with my boat, she’s temperamental.” That said, he takes two steps forward and plants himself on the weatherworn planks.

“Oh, of course. Very fitting.” An amused glint lingered in Sabo’s gaze, a far cry from the usual glazed expression Robin had a tendency of inspiring from ‘stuffed shirt’ types. “If you don’t mind my asking, how long have you been out here?”
“About sixty cases.”
“...I beg your pardon?”
Robin chuckled. “We measure time in beer. We start in June with a hundred cases. We’ve gone through about sixty so far.”
“Sixty-three, to be exact,” a new voice clarified. Nefertari Vivi stood in the shade of the trailer, waiting for them, pale blue hair pulled up into a high ponytail, dressed in cut-off jeans and a workshirt tied at her midriff.
Robin introduced her to the lawyer, before adding, “Miss Nefertari is quite vital to our work around here. She’s very good at what she does.”
“Ah? Which is?”
“Paleobotany,” Vivi grinned, opening the door to lead the way into the trailer. “And the standard field preps. And covering for Miss Nico when her social graces decide to pull a runner.”

Perhaps observing him sitting on the deck, clutching at his skull, is enough to reassure the little boy that Brook is no threat. He cautiously clambers aboard, sword clutched in one hand, and leans forward to give Brook’s nearest foot a poke with the tip of his blade. The sheer absurdity of it should be enough to make anyone laugh, but the skeleton manages to restrain himself. “You- are you dead?”
“In a sense, yes! But also technically, no! Yohohoho!” Well, at least he restrained himself momentarily. With no hat to doff, Brook settles for sweeping his arms about and bowing from his seated position. “Humming Brook, last remaining member of the Rumbar Pirates, at your service!”
The boy’s eyes grow very wide. He stares at Brook for a long moment, before glancing about the rather tattered ship, and seems to come to something of a decision. “If you’re a pirate, I should arrest you.” Ah. That does not sound promising. “But... If I rescue you instead, that means you owe me a debt?”
Judging by his immediate grimace, the child didn’t mean for that to come out as a question.

“Wano Fighting Fish,” Mihawk says easily. He lets himself look. Decent musculature, no obvious signs of injury or malnutrition or otherwise ill health, but- pale. Sluggish, for all that he’d tried lashing out. Hair grown out longer than it used to be, and almost certainly not by choice. The jagged-edged broadsword decoration sticking up from the bottom of the bowl feels particularly insulting. “A pod of them has regularly migrated past my family’s island since I was a lad.”
“Here in the East Blue? My, what do you want to bet that’s where this fish came from! And here I thought he must have gotten lost and wandered over from the other side of the globe!”
The young mer again bares his teeth.

It’s still easiest to drown his sorrows in strong liquor, and then pick a safe enough spot to drop, and spend a handful of hours painless and dreamless.
But. The call. The call coming through Shakky’s backroom den-den, the one whose number is only known to his crew and a handful of very good friends.
A call which Rayleigh knows, even before answering, isn’t anything good.

And just like that, alcohol is off the table for the foreseeable future.

“Shanks!” She can’t help but call out, far too giddy to feel foolish. Ahead of her, his head swings up immediately, turns, she’s already laughing and expecting him to yip and prance and jump down to meet her-

Now there’s usually a plate of meat put inside with him, scraps of wood and leather and canvas tied into knots, things to keep Ace busy for a few hours until he gets bored and starts clawing at the walls and window shutters.

Even limping along with his crutch on one foot, the man makes a point of holding open the door for her to step through first. Out on Oro’s deck, there’s a chaotic mess of sound, several of the children talking over each other about what they want to see and do and who’s carrying money versus who has a weapon and which groups are they sticking too again and wait where’s Luffy-
Makino snags the back of a little yellow tank top half a moment before its giggling wearer can fling himself off the side of the ship.
