In the mornings, afternoons, and nights, there is one thing that is always there for Ilya Rozanov.
And that's McDonalds.
While he does miss his usual spot back in Boston, he's been coming often to the closest one to his new home in Ottawa. It's convenient. Plus, who's gonna say no to a McGriddle?
Unfortunately for Ilya, the breakfast menu items are all unavailable at 1am.
Luckily, he has his perfect, regular late-night order that he always gets. And he orders it with pride, like a white girl at Starbucks.
But the best part of the night isn't even Ilya's food, but the worker at the window.

Summary
Shane is in a post-game interview when his world stops.
He’s just answered a question about Montreal’s offensive strategy going into the game. Clean passes, avoid penalties, draw defenders wide. It had worked and the Voyagers had beat Colorado soundly, 4-1. Shane had scored two of the goals and assisted on a third.
Usually, Shane would be eager to boast about the win to Ilya. But ever since their fight- since Ilya told Shane to leave- winning feels hollow. Losing feels better, somehow. As if Shane deserves to lose after being so selfish. Ilya gave up everything for him- his home, his team, and to some extent- his happiness. Hockey. Ilya gave up hockey- good hockey- for Shane.
A ripple goes through the room of reporters. Shane swears he hears the word ‘Ottawa’ and ‘crash’. But no one is paying attention to him anymore.
“What’s going on?” he asks into the microphone, feeling strange at the role reversal. Usually, he’s the one being asked questions.
No one answers. And this time he knows that he hears the word ‘Ottawa’ and ‘Centaurs’.

Summary
“You will not be so nice when we beat you,” Ilya told Shane Hollander, holding onto his hand, not letting him pull away. Not yet.
But Hollander’s brow furrowed, not in anger but in confusion. “Ah, um, sorry,” Hollander said. “Merci. My English is bad. Worse… than you. Maybe slower?” And he leaned in, like that would help him understand.
Ilya’s eyebrows rose, and his smile widened.
Or, Ilya Rozanov grew up in Russia. Shane Hollander was raised in France. When they first meet, neither of them can speak English very well. Somehow, it’s easier to understand each other when words aren’t getting in the way.
(Stand-alone remix of “I’m Reading Your Lips (You’re Speaking My Language)” but this time neither of them are native English speakers, and learning a new language is sort of like falling in love, if you think about it.)

Summary
He could be an athlete, obviously does some sort of physical training to have a body like that. And it’s so compelling, touches on this little niggling fantasy that Ilya has at the back of his head. Something about being around muscular men all day, everyday, practicing alongside each other, competing on the ice.
‘Jane’ leans forward a bit, adjusting himself in the chair, and then he clears his throat. “So… Let’s get started, yeah? What do you want to do to me?”
Like this is some game recognized by the audience, a flurry of comments explode in the chat, everyone going into detail on what they want to see of ‘Jane’, what they want to do to him, how they would have him if they could. After a moment, there’s this little breathless chuckle that sounds out through the speakers on Ilya’s laptop, a noise of exasperation.
“Yeah?” His voice is already breathier, deeper, and Ilya’s eyes zero in on the sliver of skin revealed where his shirt is pulled up. “All that, huh?”
Ilya feels the start of something swirling in his gut, some warm satisfaction at the tone the man is taking. The proposal of a challenge.
