Summary
James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes was Captain America's best friend his story was painted all over the measeum walls side by side with the Howling Comandos. He was then recorded in the locked files of the HYDRA vaults. But there is more to his story, much more in between the lines of his history and eventual pardon. So much lost time, so much missing information, so much story still left to tell.
Please note that this fic is only the first of three potential future parts. This will be considered the 40s segmentPersonal note: This fic is very whumpy and an excuse for me to beat the shit out of my favourite character, because what else do you do with your favourite character than inflict unimaginable pain on them :) Please mind the tags and please excuse the fact that this fic is going to take me YEARS to complete.
(Edit: I changed some of the tags recently since I'm not sure if certain aspects common place with Bucky's story and his time as the Winter Soldier will actually be in this fic since it's going to be split up into several parts)

They evolved to live on land for the safety of reproduction, since everything in the water was food” Gideon has turned away again for something. And Leon thinks rapidly, he can’t grab the knife and there is nothing much in reach, not even something within kicking distance he can uses as a distraction.
When Gideon turns back whatever he was holding is now at his side and Leon can’t see it. The light makes the shadows darker than normal and Leon is sure Gideon has done that on purpose
“Of course that meant humans had to develop a new way to breathe, since their gills became useless. Which is intriguing since all mammals are born in fluids even now”
Leon can hear something being dragged across the floor as Gideon moves closer and his stomach twist itself into a knot over and over again. His mind racing and his heart pounding all the while he sits completely still, holding the masked gaze of Gideon who painstakingly slowly approaches him with an unknown item.
“Can you adapt Leon” Gideon reveals what he is holding “Or will you die?”

Dean Winchester works long nights as a bouncer at a local bar that never seems to have a quiet moment, and patrons never seem to miss the opportunity to start a fight. He works hard, living from paycheck to paycheck spending any additional money he has on his vintage 1967 Chevrolet Impala.
Castiel is a dishwasher at a local restaurant, it isn't a five star establishment but boy is it busy. And with a shitty boss and a rundown life things can tend to get overwhelming for Cas.
By chance Cas and Dean meet in the middle where their two workplaces are joined by an alley. It's a mere coincidence that they are in the same place at the same time since it would be so easy to miss one another, but when they are brought together neither can seem to stay apart

"You thinkin' about me?" Kattigan's deep voice rumbles near his ear. Occtis' heart leaps out of his chest. He had been too caught up in his thoughts, and hadn't seen the older man stride up next to him.
Occtis panics for a moment, unsure how to respond to that question. Yes, he had been thinking about him. He cringes– no, he can't say that. Before he can think of some acceptable lie, Kattigan laughs.
"Just fucking with you. You should have seen your face!" Kattigan's laugh and words sound light, but his gaze is intense.
"Oh." Occtis says dumbly.
Or, Occtis and Kattigan break off from the group as they're walking back to the Fang house. They end up cuddling (and more) in a tree.
