Without the chaos of the erratic monitor, without the rush of stabilizing the patient, there was a quiet intensity to her gaze that sent a slow tingle down his spine. She gave him a slow, deliberate once-over, taking her time, her smile shifting into something nearly predatory.
“In that case, I’d better not say the next thing I’m thinking.” Her voice dipped, low and almost conspiratorial. “Might get us both in trouble.”
Jack’s pulse skipped again. From anyone else, that kind of directness would have felt reckless, maybe even arrogant. But from her, Jack found himself oddly charmed, utterly defenseless.
Or.... Jack Abbot's adventures in romance, with as many reverse tropes thrown in as author can fit.
