Summary
It wasn't supposed to go like this.
Steve was supposed to work with Robin at the Family Video, flirt with the many many girls who came to browse the expansive selection of VHSes, go on some dates, and hopefully find The One.
It was supposed to be a notably upside-down free year.
And, hey, for what it's worth? He wasn't supposed to be pinned down on a mattress by Eddie Munson either.
And he certainly wasn't supposed to be enjoying it.

He certainly wasn’t going to air out his series of failed relationships – stemming from his abandonment issues and the fact it took him nineteen years to realize he couldn’t connect with any of his dates because he was going after the completely wrong gender – in front of a complete stranger and a group of children. He definitely didn’t want to be discussing this in front of Eddie. He’d put too much effort into hiding the crush that had steadily developed over the summer before it could ruin their friendship. But any hope of avoiding that had clearly died the moment Steve stepped through Madame Loretta’s gaudy curtain beads.

Summary
The thing was that Steve didn’t like Eddie. At least, not as far as Eddie could tell. He’d said something to Robin about it who brushed him off.
“Steve’s just being Steve. He likes you fine. He’s just… being Steve.”
Or... Eddie isn't sure when Steve started to dislike him so much, but he's more than willing to mess around with him when Steve confesses he has...something...he needs to get out of his system.
Eddie just wasn't counting on his heart getting involved along the way.

Or...Eddie is sent to New Havens Correctional following a drug related...accident. Whilst trying to recover and get a handle on his addictions, Eddie makes new friends and finds he is not the only one battling demons. He also finds someone he never expected and very quickly cannot live without. Steve helps Eddie navigate his emotions, his recovery and their relationship, while trying to cope with his own struggles.
