“Celine gave me that recipe,” Rumi mutters quietly, looking down into her mug and cradling it close. “When I was a lot younger.”
Mira and Zoey both turn around.
“It’s my favorite.” Rumi smiles wryly. “Or was. I haven’t had it in a while.”
“I bet it’s going to taste so good,” Zoey giggles, disentangling herself from Mira to step closer towards Rumi. Zoey takes her mug and sets it on the countertop, Rumi’s arms inevitably find their way around Zoey’s waist. She leans up to kiss Rumi—soft, firm. Grounding.
Just what she needed, because Mira presses ever onwards. “Have you two spoken lately?”
“Not at all,” Rumi admits. “We haven’t—I haven’t—”
She hasn’t figured it out yet. It’s all so nebulous and confusing, the gargantuan complexity of how Celine makes her feel. Or, how Celine feels about her. The bridge between them feels frail and tenuous—if it’s even still there at all—and crossing it feels scary. Terrifying.
And yet,
“I missed her today.”
[OR: Rumi cooks an old recipe for Zoey & Mira, and realizes something very important along the way.]

Summary
Several people have been demanding (not asking, demanding) I make an AU of my Demon Rearing AU where everything is totally happy and fine and, while I'm not committing to a full fic or anything, I also would like to explore their weird happy family a bit. So, have some random oneshots in no particular order that I'll update randomly of Rumi and her several (still living) parents.
Also because it's a bunch of oneshots, I can skip straight to polytrix things for some of these so that's fun.
These oneshots have nothing to do with the Demon Rearing canon and likely will not overlap or spoil anything, since this is a pretty different situation. Reading Demon Rearing probably isn't important to understanding any of these, but you know. If you want to know where this came from, that's where. There might be some added context if you read that first, but I don't think it's necessary.

It had been four months since Celine killed Rumi in that graveyard, and when Celine starts to bring up the idea of a replacement, Zoey and Mira give their souls to bring Rumi back with them, to say the things they never got the time to say. And even though she's changed, she's still their Rumi.

Mira sat up and peered at Rumi. Rumi didn't like that look; it felt uncomfortably like she could see right through her, like she could just tell Rumi wasn't asking an idle question. She was about to walk the question back, to change the topic, something, when Mira's eyes widened. Oh no—this was it; Rumi was done for.
“Oh my God,” said Mira. She narrowed her eyes and pointed an accusing finger at Rumi “You're thinking about having cute babies with that Saja Boy!”
(Or: Rumi tries to delicately soft launch the subject of hybrid human-demons; it doesn't go as planned.)

Summary
When they first turn to walk backstage, Mira thinks that things are okay. She's exhausted and probably bleeding somewhere, but her girls are with her, and she knows they have each other. She can't stop looking at them. But then Rumi is crying—tears of joy? She shares a concerned look with Zoey.
"Rumi?" She squeezes Rumi's hand as she says it. Rumi turns to look up at her, but it doesn't look like anything is really registering.
They make it almost backstage when Rumi's hands seem to slacken, her footsteps more and more unsteady. Without having to say it, both Zoey and her tighten their grips and speed up. Something isn't right. Rumi inhales suddenly, sharply.

She sleeps fitfully, waking again, this time hot.
She uncovers fully, but then the sweat makes her shiver, so she pulls the blanket back over.
Then, too hot.
Then, too cold.
On and off the blanket goes, maddeningly, until she has just almost found a half on and half off solution that leaves her somewhere in the middle, when she hears Mira clear her throat in the hallway, and then knock. No, it can't already be training time, is it? She checks the phone again—just after 7. Shit.

Oh, and of course, just to add to the difficulty of her situation, the kid is half demon. She's lucky she's so stinking cute.

I've seen so many stories completely villainizing Celine, which I'm totally interested in exploring don't get me wrong, but I also disagree that that's how she is in canon. She's a lot more complex than that, I think. That being said, this ALSO isn't based on canon. This is Celine doing a better job at being the parent Rumi needed.
Also note that the first chapter is a prologue and not really in the style that the rest of the fic will be written in, it's just like that for atmosphere!

Summary
Demons could shapeshift. Celine knew it, Zoey and Mira knew it, hell all hunters throughout the genderations knew it.
They could shapeshift into humans only. Surprisingly enough, they could not transform into animals. As much as they had good disguises, it was fairly easy to spot a demon because of their strange actions, and that they could not hide their patterns.
Jeoseung saja demons were once human, they blend in better with the humans, but ultimately their
patterns would reveal themselves on their skin. Their shapeshifting is impeccable, as you'd think they're either human, or guiding your soul to the after life, not realizing they're going to consume your soul instead of guiding it.Rumi, however, is a fucking outlier and should not be included for the sake of Celine's sanity and every demon's dignity

"What if Miyeong lived, but was a deadbeat mom with horrendous postpartum depression?"
Miyeong finds herself with an unwanted pregnancy and denies denies denies until it's too late. When she sees Rumi's patterns, she shuts down. But both Miyeong and Thirdlight find that they are too squeamish to kill a baby themselves, and ask Celine to "fix this". Celine interprets "fix this" as "throw my reputation on this grenade and claim the baby is mine, then quietly raise her on my own". Much to Celine's regret, the honmoon still chooses Rumi, and she has to go get trained by the Sunlight Sisters Duo.
Knowing (more or less) the score, Rumi is not delighted by the duo's treatment of her Real Mother (Celine) and is a real pain in the ass about it.

Rumi still wouldn’t meet her gaze, but after a moment, she nodded.
“I do.”
Her voice sounded strained, and it only made Mira more suspicious.
She raised an eyebrow. “Care to share with the class then?”
Rumi hesitated, opening and closing her mouth a few times, before sighing in defeat. She looked at Mira sideways, expression still wary.
“I-okay. But it’s…weird. And I mean, like, really weird.”
Mira wasn’t sure what Rumi was so worried about. Their entire lives were weird. They were literally Kpop idols who fought demons. Whatever weird idea Rumi had cooked up, Mira was sure she could handle it.
Mira put her hand on top of Rumi’s, gently squeezing it in comfort. “Rumi, If you think it can get us out of here, it doesn’t matter what it is.”
Rumi flicked her eyes back at Mira anxiously, clearly still unsure, but nodded, the words rushing out of her mouth.
“I could swallow her.”

The girls keep ending up in situations where getting eaten by Rumi is the best solution. As time goes on, the excuses get flimsier. Eventually, they stop needing excuses.

At the age of seven, it became obvious that Rumi could never pass as a human. Her patterns had spread all over her body, no matter how much she had tried to cover them. They were on her face and her hands already. Her claws refused to be cut, becoming black, thicker and sharper. Her eyes had changed to golden and were demon-like, not Ryu’s brown anymore.
Celine knew what she had to do. She had always known.

This is the story of how Celine slowly learned to accept all parts of Rumi, because she didn't have a choice but to face the parts she didn't want to see.
