Luckily, Juniper Woods had been spared the worst of the blast, directly shielded by his (they pause and then say, tactfully, unwise) protective posture. She’d been left with enough strength of body and presence of mind to grab him after he collapsed.
Unluckily, this means that said “worst of the blast” exerted itself squarely on Apollo’s shoulders, and his back, and his arms, and a lot of his legs.

In the wake of it, he will be unutterably grateful that he chose to call, because it will be the last time that he speaks to Phoenix Wright for quite some time. Not forever, of course - both of them have come to terms by now with the fact that they cannot get rid of one another, even if they try, even if there is nothing in the world that they want more. But for a while.
In the moment, he simply dials, and Wright picks up, and they agree to go for coffee.

If he didn’t think too hard about it, he might have ended up pacing the length of his bedroom back and forth all night, just waiting for his friends to show back up and give him something to attend to, some reason to exist. But he has thought about it, and he’s realised that just because Kris and Susie are doing realer things right now, that doesn’t mean he can’t still be attending to them!
This is why, in the middle of the night, he is carefully carving out the wall between their bedrooms, smushing them together into one united space. Because when Kris and Susie get here in the morning, he will be ready to make it a good one.
