AU (Black Mirror). All of society is regimented by a Five Star social scale, voting on each interaction, photo, and anecdote. Keeping up is practically a full time job, but fortunately, Light Yagami excels at smiling and lying through his teeth. It’s no wonder he becomes one of the youngest with a 4.5+ Star rating in existence, all while carefully pretending to be apathetic to the whole system.

Certainly not enough to guarantee that if his safety measure were to activate, it wouldn’t, say, set his entire desk on fire before he had a chance to even try containing the blaze.
Light panics hard when he realizes what’s happening, then harder still when he searches through his clever honor-student mind and comes up with absolutely nothing helpful for stopping a fire that he fucking started in his own goddamn desk drawer.
Ryuk’s cackling laughter isn’t a very helpful soundtrack. Light whips around to tell him that, and—
(the last piece of the Death Note crumbles to ash)

I read this, uhh maybe a month ago so the fic is a bit hazy, but it's obviously very good because it still haunts my mind until now! One of the things i remembered loving a lot is the way misa was portrayed! The author actually gave her and light a relationship built on some form of trust and friendship, and i honestly rlly love that! -
