Summary
“Do you want to go away with me for a week?”
She stares at him dumbfounded. “You’re serious.”
“My bag is in my car downstairs if you want me to show you how serious I am.”
Her mouth opens and closes like a fish and she has no idea what to say to this because out of all the things she could have expected Josh Lyman to say to her on a Wednesday at eight thirty seven in the evening, leaving the White House on no notice for a week was certainly not on the list.

Summary
She takes a deep breath before knocking on his door. She can do this. Knock, knock, two sharp knocks. She’s here for business. She hears his soft steps through the carpet till he stops behind the door and pauses. Saints, can he sense her through a door?
He finally opens the door. “Hi.”
She nods at him, and extends her hand holding the requisition papers for the First Army. “I nee–,” she clears her throat. “These need to be signed.” She cannot say the words I need you right now, no matter the context.

Summary
Together they make their way to Zoya's chambers, the closest private room. They walk in and as soon as Zoya closes the door behind her, Genya is on her, pulling the collar of her kefta to the side to expose an angry red mark on the side of her neck and sighs.
Zoya shakes her off and takes a step away from her friend, but says nothing. Genya simply stares pleadingly at her. “Zoya…”
“Don’t.”
“I must. It’s my job.” Zoya sighs and turns away from her friend. “You promised me this would stop.”
Zoya walks over to her drink cart and pours herself a glass of bourbon. “It did stop. For a while, it did.”

Summary
"I never hated you, you know."
If she were being honest, a simple 'I know' would have been the easiest response to go with, despite her not actually believing it herself.
Perhaps it was the alcohol, but she finds herself answering honestly.
"I think you did."
"I thought I did," Amy clarifies, taking a long sip of her wine, "I wanted too, at least."

Summary
“Happy, sad, drunk, sober, laughing, crying,” he murmured, kissing her jaw, “when you’re mad at me and I don’t know why,” her neck, “when you’re mad at me and I know exactly why,” her collarbone, “when I’m mad at you ‘cause you married an idiot,” her arm, “when you forgive me ‘cause I married an angel,” and oh, he seemed sober now. He put his arms now around her waist and walked her backwards to the bed, she following with her hands on his back and a certain excitement in her step. “God, Donna, I love it — waking up, going to work, making dinner, dancing with you, going to bed,” he lay next to her, intertwining their hands, and then shifted above her, “going to bed, or the couch, or the kitchen counter, or the car, or that one memorable time in my old office…”
“Josh?”
“Hmm?” He looked down at her.
“You’re getting a little off track.”

Summary
She knew the beltway thought of him as this big political mastermind, but underneath he was just a stupid kid with a big heart. He was earnest, endearing and loved stupidly over the top gestures like sending her a ridiculous number of flowers.
And then she remembered the date.
Scratch that, Donna thought. Josh Lyman is a dead man.
Or Donna receives her first April anniversary flowers of the Santos Administration.

Summary
The first night, they just sleep.
It is simpler than she expected it to be, a clean surrender to the exhaustion clinging to both of them. It wasn’t that Donna had been bracing for awkwardness, not after Josh appeared at CJ’s door with a promise that he didn’t need a month. Not after the way he stared at her, the same way he had since election night, half-awe, half-pants shitting terror and begged her to go to Hawai’i with him. Not after the way Josh had threaded his fingers through hers the entire flight, as if unwilling to let her run away again.
