In typical use, “incest” is used to describe a taboo affair, either consensually or nonconsensually, between close relatives, like siblings or cousins, or in the most despairing of situations the romantic and sexual interactions between a parent and child. In this story, however, incest refers to the loving relationship between Violet and Klaus Baudelaire that ballooned beyond the typical feelings brothers and sisters have for one another into something both romantic and sexual. While aware of the way the outer world would view their union, Violet and Klaus could never view this development as anything but inevitable and right in a world where most everything else seemed wrong. If you have any interest in the preservation of your innocence, I beg you to look away.

It might comfort you to believe the story contained herein is only a fanfiction, a made-up tale some well-meaning but troubled individual with odd ideas about acceptable romantic pairings wrote about the disturbing situation they imagined the Baudelaire orphans finally ended up in. Or indeed, to believe that perhaps I am writing to you from some completely alternative universe as proposed by the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics, in which every outcome, no matter how unusual, exists in some universe. Yet I have dedicated myself to telling their story, and have always held to the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics, even if some alternate version of me might not, and so I must consider this story the true conclusion to this series of unfortunate events. But, as always, you do not have to read it.
