Summary
"Bloody Jesus." Soap shook his head, weapon down again, heart still high in his throat. "One of these days someone is gonna shoot ye for being a creep."
Ghost didn't even blink at that, fully stepping out of the small shadow that had been partially obscuring his bulk. He was geared up as usual, if usual meant having to take on an entire platoon by himself.
"I would like to see them try", he rumbled.

Or, five times Ghost did Soap a favor and the one time Soap had paid him back.

Summary
When a mission gone wrong leaves John "Soap" MacTavish in a coma in a foreign hospital, the language barrier turns Simon "Ghost" Riley into Soap's husband instead of his partner.
What begins as a bureaucratic mistake snowballs into a full-blown fake marriage as Ghost is forced keep up the ruse in order to deal with hospital staff, paperwork, and, to his horror, very real in-laws.
By the times Soap wakes up, he has acquired a very devoted husband the nurses swoon over and his parents have accepted into the family.
As Soap recovers, he and Ghost try to navigate their growing feelings as the line between pretend and fake starts to blur. By the time Soap is cleared for active duty again, they must figure out what their relationship really is… and whether the fake marriage everyone believes in might not be so fake after all.

Summary
This is what his life has come to. He’s being disrespected by a dumpster rat.
He wishes he had someone to blame his current situation on, someone to direct his anger at, but in all honesty, the shitshow that landed him here was nothing more than an unfortunate series of entirely incidental accidents.
He knocks his head back into the wall behind him and huffs. Next to him, the rat chitters (sounding sympathetic, though Soap is beginning to think he might be projecting… or just losing it).
Or: Soap loses comms on a mission and is presumed dead. Having been left behind, he has no choice but to make his own way back to base. He doesn't expect to have been missed quite so much.

How do you tell a dog from an SAS sergeant?
Soap's been trying to think of a punchline, but so far, all he's got is a dog’s gotta shit in the woods and bury it slightly more often than an SAS Sergeant.

Summary
Rudy couldn't take it anymore. Couldn't take the heat and the smoke in his lungs, reaching up to drag Alejandro’s face down, so he could hide his own in the man’s neck.
He took a deep, shuddering breath in, just to get the smell of the fire out of his nose, out of his mind. What surprised him was the sound Alejandro made, like he needed Rudy just as much as Rudy needed him.

Summary
Rodolfo was three years old the first time he met Alejandro — the first time the boy who would one day become one of his most important people bit him. He doesn’t remember it himself, only knows the story because his mamá would talk about it for years afterward. He’d been crying that day, inconsolable over something no one could pinpoint. Alejandro had been five, had still lived several houses down from his family in Las Almas back then.
“He came right through the window,” mamá would say, eyes misty from memory and a small smile on her face. “Not a word he said to anyone. He just went right to you, mijo, and bit your neck. I’ve never heard a sound like that come from a person, let alone a child. Like a rumbling croon. You calmed down so quickly, like you’d been waiting for it. For him.”

Which meant he also noticed when Ghost frowned heavily and murmured, “Not really my thing.”
“Oh,” Gaz said with his brows raised. “So you haven’t got one then.” He slapped Price on the shoulder and grinned.
“I do.” Ghost interrupted, taking another long sip from his nearly empty glass. “Just think they’re rubbish.”
Soap felt like all the air had been sucked out of the room. He watched Rudy’s hand tighten on Alejandro’s as he shot a sympathetic look towards Soap, who quickly looked away.

Summary
Soap went still. There, crushed into the floor of their tent, was the yellow-brown body of a scorpion.
Their guide had warned them of all sorts of creatures in the desert. Most had been accompanied with the word muerto. Soap wasn’t exactly a linguist, but in this line of work there were a few words in every language you heard more than the rest. Death was one of them.
Maybe everything was fine. Maybe Ghost had crushed it before anything had happened, and he had only gone out to get a little air.
Or perhaps he had been stung and decided to wander off into the desert to die.
Soap certainly knew which one of those possibilities sounded more like Ghost.
- -
Soap helps Ghost treat a scorpion sting in the middle of the desert. Along the way they resolve the uncertain status of their attitudes towards each other.

Summary
“Johnny?” Ghost pulled off his gloves, kneeling at the bedside. He could feel the heat on his palm before he even made contact with the clammy skin. His fingers found the pulse point, and his own heart beat faster. It was weak. It was too damn weak. “Fuck!”
Within seconds he had scooped Soap into his arms and started practically running down the barracks halls. People jumped out of the way, faces shocked at the unusual sight. Murmurs drowned in the sound of blood rushing in his ears.
“Hang in there, Johnny. Stay with me now.”
Soap gets poisoned. Ghost takes it as well as you'd expect.

Summary
One laugh stood out amongst the small crowd, and Ghost felt his heart still – there was no bloody way. He pushed through the crowd more forcefully than he intended and stopped dead in his tracks. It took everything in him to mold his face into something that resembled disinterest.
There – sitting on a couch lounge next to Crawford, acting like he’d known the man for years – was Soap fucking Mactavish.
Fuckin’ hell.

Summary
“Fuckin’ hell, Johnny.” Ghost was standing in the middle of the carnage, covered in blood like a fallen angel.
Thank God.
Johnny’s grip loosened on his rifle, dropping the muzzle forwards. Ghost was on him in a second, only needing to take a single stride to get to Soap and tuck an arm around Soap’s waist, tugging the weapon from his hand.
Soap could feel his heart beat in his left arm- hanging limply at his side, blood dripping off his fingers. “Nah, still on earth last I checked.”
He had hoped Ghost would at least chuckle, but the man did not seem to find anything funny about this for some reason. -

“Yield.”
He bares his teeth, presses back against the firm body above him and bucks, furious and not particularly sure as to why.
The arm around his throat tightens as Ghost presses further against him, nearly crushing him with his weight. He’s trying to wear him down, trying to get him to collapse, but Soap has held heavier, has pushed through worse.
The spar isn’t over until he says it is.

Summary
Freediver John “Soap” MacTavish has trained for years to break the world diving record—pushing his body beyond limits, mastering the silence of the deep. But as the record attempt nears, something begins to stir beneath the surface.
Something watching him.
Something waiting. It starts as a feeling, a presence just out of reach, one that fills him with unease... and a strange sense of longing. The deeper he dives, the more he feels it, a pull that’s not just in his mind, but in his bones.
Like he’s not alone down there. Like whatever is waiting for him in the dark has always been meant for him, and him alone. -
