"Qifrey, you…" Olruggio sucks a steadying breath through his teeth, and lifts Qifrey's hand, pressing lips to the back. He closes his eyes, and speaks, words exhaled against skin. "You may take everything from me, but one thing."
"Your soul? Your self?" Qifrey means to joke, but it comes out broken and hollow; a tree struck by lightning and scorched so fiercely that nothing is left within it, and it's good for nothing but a greedy hearth in winter.
"Love." The word comes with a soft kiss left to Qifrey's wrist. When Qifrey doesn't move—how can he?—Olruggio's lips grace fingertips, and another kiss is left to his palm. "You cannot take love from me, and it is the one thing I'll give you. It's the one thing I haven't forgotten—you kept it there, a seed of its own."
- If Olruggio's love is to be Qifrey's death, then let it be a burden instead, in favour of life.

And so Jayce Talis has crawled out of the depths of the Undercity and through the ruins of Piltover and found himself a second chance. There has only been one person on his mind. One that he wishes he could go back to, even if it changes nothing.
His entire train of thought derails as the stranger lifts his head. Short, sharp exhales make little clouds of vapor puff from his lips. His fingers, blackened with dirt and wrapped with shreds of his own clothing, curl into a fist around the haft of his weapon, leaning against it to support his own weight. It’s the eyes that drive the air from Viktor’s lungs.
He knows those eyes.
He knows that face.
“Jayce?”
At the sound of his own name, Jayce recoils. His teeth grit together as he grabs his head to turn himself away, breaking the hold of his stare. The intensity of it lingers though. Like the bright flash of a camera. The look on his face stains itself to the forefront of Viktor’s mind. He looked like… almost like an animal.

Summary
Instead of dissolving with Viktor like Jayce expected, he gets sent a decade into the past when Viktor didn’t even know him yet. Of course the logical action to take is to kidnap him. Meanwhile Viktor, twenty-two years old, figures that hey, as long as he can research magic, this isn’t too bad of a predicament.
Or: Post-Season 2 Jayce and Season 1 Viktor, the grief of having lost your soulmate while having to look at his younger version who doesn’t even know you, the endless exhaustion of being a second-hand love and also science.

Jayce’s eyes snap to him, and Viktor almost gasps. There’s something wrong. Well, obviously, your lab partner’s just been regurgitated from a roiling ball of energy with a beard and a massive fuck-off hammer, thank you for the observation, Viktor - but there’s something wrong with Jayce, with his eyes. He looks crazed. He looks horrified, and all the more horrified the longer he stares.
“No,” Jayce breathes. He staggers forward, catching himself with his hammer. “No. No, no, no, it can’t be you. He didn’t mean- no.”
Viktor holds out a hand like he’s soothing a feral cat. “Are you alright? I can help you. Just- just let me stand.”
He picks up his cane, leveraging himself from the ground. Jayce keeps trembling.
“Not you, that’s not- that’s not what he said, not you, I can’t kill you.”

Felix shushes him and wraps his arms around his head, holding him just like his mother would when he was little and too clumsy for his own good, knees forever scrapped up. “I’m so stupid, Lix. I’m so, so stupid.”
There’s a sigh, and then Felix pushes Hyunjin’s head away from his chest, holding his plump cheeks in a tight grip. Felix watches him for a few seconds, wiping his cheeks dry, and then blurts out. “You’re not. Chan’s just a cunt.”
