Let me teach you the things you should have learnt from your mother.”Elrond hesitated. That was to be expected. He had been trained to be loyal to his kidnappers. Thingol could be patient. He painted a gentle smile on his face and sweetened his voice.
“I am told you know a little of our festivals and our literature, but do you know our songs? Our dances? Do you know the food we eat and the clothes we wear? You should at least learn of your culture.”
After a disastrous first meeting, Thingol attempts to connect with Elrond, his one living male descendant. Elrond is more interested in negotiating peace between the Noldor and the Sindar. Neither get quite what they want.

Summary
Major skewing of canon: we are operating under the assumption Melkor returned to Angband after his release and left again shortly thereafter, with Mairon at his side, to find some little (actually rather large, let’s be real) piece of land on a mountain to exclusively call their own. Some friends came with them. Treaties were signed, tentative peace was called, and here we are.

Summary
Mairon discovers that there's a lot more to the birds and the bees where the Elves are concerned than he had previously thought. When Melkor offers him his help in exploring this revelation he happily agrees, though with no motivation deeper than satisfying his own curiosity about the act. As time wears on however, Mairon begins to anticipate the day Melkor makes good on this offer for reasons far removed from his own curiosity. It's really inconvenient when you're trying to get some work done!
