Summary
“You’re so pretty,” Enid blurted, her voice soft—barely more than a breath.
Wednesday gave her a flat, deadpan look—though a flicker of playfulness glinted in her dark eyes. “I’m attempting to communicate something of actual significance, and here you are… distracted by my face.”
Enid’s laughter rose in a quiet bubble, light and unrestrained. She reached out, pulling Wednesday in by the waist and wrapping her arms tightly around her. Her cheek found its place against Wednesday’s chest, where the steady rhythm of her heartbeat thudded gently beneath layers of black cotton. The scent of lavender soap and the dry, comforting undertone of old paper clung to her like a signature.
“I’m sorry,” Enid whispered, the words muffled by fabric and closeness. “I’m still learning what I can and can’t do with you. Still figuring it all out. Just… please be patient with me.”
Wednesday’s arms came around her slowly, deliberately, folding over her shoulders like a shelter. Her chin settled atop Enid’s head, her touch quiet but sure. Her fingers returned to their absent-minded threading through Enid’s soft waves.
“I already am,” Wednesday murmured.

Her words were nothing more than breath caught in the grass. A whisper layered over the hush of wind and the distant hum of night.
Wednesday didn’t look up.
Her eyes never strayed from Enid’s face—the pale arch of her brow, the soft tremble of her mouth, the quiver of lashes catching starlight. A tear slipped down Wednesday’s cheek, tracing the familiar curve of her jaw before vanishing into the stiff collar of her shirt.
“Indeed,” she replied, just as quietly. “Indeed, she is.”

Wednesday didn’t flinch. Her tone remained steady, even.

The werewolf smirked, his stance aggressive as he towered over her. "You and your little girlfriend," he spat, as if the word were something to be ridiculed. "You’ve got the younger ones thinking they don’t need the pack. Thinking they can just... ignore us. That’s not how this works."
"Ah," Wednesday said, her voice dangerously calm, her gaze as cold. "So it’s not about the younger werewolves needing support. It’s about your fragile masculinity—bloated, brittle, and as useful as a paper leash in a dog fight." Her words were steady and sharp, calm in the face of five werewolves.

Enid just wanted to be kind—to make the underclassmen feel wanted and less alone, to be the person she never had when she was a freshman. Wednesday, on the other hand, just wanted solitude and to enjoy her time with Enid in peace. She didn’t want to be dragged into pack politics she had no business being a part of.
What infuriated Wednesday the most was having to watch Enid suffer under the weight of mistreatment—especially at the hands of those who were supposed to be her pack leaders.

Summary
From across the room, Yoko looked up from her laptop, eyes narrowing like a cat spotting prey. She pointed subtly at Enid and whisper-yelled, “Gay!” like she was delivering a stage cue.
Enid grabbed the closest thing to her—a sneaker—and hurled it across the room. It missed Yoko by an inch and smacked the bed beside Ajax’s shoulder. He ducked with a startled yelp.
“Hey! Warning shot next time!” he protested.
Enid grinned sheepishly and returned to the phone, cheeks burning just enough that she turned her face into the bean bag. Wednesday didn’t say anything else. Enid didn’t reply to that last line either.
She just smiled into the soft fabric and held the phone a little closer to her chest.
