Slowly, she draws back to stare at his face with pure disbelief, as if he has announced that the moon has moved.
“No,” she says, flat as a door shutting.

Maedhros looked up at him with quiet attention, but wrath was building in Thingol’s voice. “How do you have the effrontery to stand before me and declare that you, the leader of the most infamous scourge to arise among the Eldar, the chief of the Noldor invaders, the one responsible for pulling down Morgoth’s wrath on all our heads, that you, murderer of your people and your family and yourself, have something to forgive me for?”

How could it have slipped by him? He was always so careful in his letters! He had reread those few lines so many times, but it had not stuck out to him as odd. He certainly hadn’t believed it would make Fingon leave everything and ride to him.

_Fingon goes to visit Maedhros, accidentally arrives during a Fëanorion family reunion, and quickly regrets many (but not all) of his life choices.
