Mr. Grace lifted his hand, palm facing out like he did in class when Peters classmates got too rowdy. Peter stopped speaking abruptly, biting his lip and looking down. Not before noticing that Mr. Grace had slipped his glasses back to their proper position on the ridge of his nose, which was strange because Mr. Grace's glasses were almost always hanging precariously off of a single ear or the collar of his sweater.

Grace only has a few months of "food" left on the Hail Mary. Rocky's mind has begun to splinter under the stress of his mission. Adrian is there to support them--both of them, in time--but has also had their own share of troubles while Rocky has been away. On top of it all, Erid itself seems to be of two minds about the arrival of the Hail Mary.

Explores the time between the arrival at Erid, and the Epilogue chapter of the book. Borrows from both book and film canons. Is definitely an AU with a lot more room for whump in it. “Yes, yes, excite, excite,” Rocky says, and Grace still isn’t great at telling the mood of Rocky’s words from their tone, but it sounds a little off. “Tell me more about environmental needs for humans. I will make sure they know how to build you a home.”
Grace lets that change of topic go for right now. If Rocky doesn’t want to talk about what’s bothering him right now, that’s fine.

Really, the reason he doesn’t think about Courtland is that he’s a coward. His absence, and then death, have impacted every decision he’s ever made, and everything he’s turned out to be. He’s gone most of his life missing an essential part of himself and pretending like it was fine. But it wasn’t fine. It was an amputation that never healed. He can’t think about it because the enormity of it would bring him to his knees. He has to keep moving.
So he doesn’t think about Court for his own sanity, and here is proof, because moments after allowing himself to grieve him for the first time in years, his dead brother is sitting at his kitchen table in the dark, watching him through cautious eyes, spirit-summoned like a ghoul.
