Summary
When the world falls apart, humans have to pick themselves back up and do something about it.
You were a nomadic type of person, moving from community to community as you worked on their solar energy and their robot workers. You were one of very few people who could do this work, you were very highly respected. Also, very highly sought after.
On your way home from helping a community, you’re being pursued by a gang of undesirable people and you had no intent of helping them.
Hiding in a building for the night, you happen across an old bot, seemingly broken. You decide to scrap it for parts, that is until the damn thing wakes up. Now you feel guilty about wanting to gut it’s parts. But what’re you suppose to do with a 9-foot-tall celestial robot? Take it home?
That seems to be what it wants.

Summary
Astarion wasn’t sulking, nor was he hiding from Gale. He was simply taking a relaxing moment to himself. A relaxing moment in the dark, pressed between boxes in what was presumably a storage room.
Sometimes it's easier to ignore an issue when you've got more imminent problems to deal with. Now that he's finally safe, Astarion finds it might be harder to ignore said issues.

Summary
Gale shouldn’t be entirely startled to find a vampire standing in the middle of his foyer, wet clothes dripping on the carpet and hands cupped around something small and equally soaked through.
He shouldn’t be, and yet…
“I found her in a crate,” Astarion says, shifting his grip to reveal a tiny slip of a kitten, sodden and shivering. His expression is bemused as he looks down at the little creature.
For all Astarion’s readiness to stab those deserving and undeserving alike, cruelty to animals bewilders him. Something Gale finds endlessly charming, not that he would ever say as much.

Summary
Astarion is fine - he really is just fine, thank you very much. He wants to do his job, do his best to bully his brain into submission each night so he can get a good night's sleep, and stay firmly under everyone's radar. He does not want to work with his irritatingly cheery and dull colleague - Gale Dekarios - on a stupid and meaningless project.
Alas, the universe - or at least Blackstaff Academy - has different ideas.
OR: Gale and Astarion are both tired, traumatised, and undervalued teachers at Blackstaff Academy and, eventually, Gale worms his way under every single one of Astarion's defences.

As he regains his composure, Astarion nods and places a gentle, open-mouthed kiss on Gale’s throat, grinning wildly when he feels it bob beneath his lips. “Yes, my love. I think I’m more sure about this than I’ve been about almost anything else.” He tilts his hips forward to meet Gale’s hovering hand and they both gasp at the contact. “Please, Gale,” Astarion whines, “Please touch me.”

Gale blinks and finds himself back at square one with an overwhelming amount of knowledge, a hungry Netherese blight in his chest, and friends who no longer remember him.
Or... Gale is like basically a fortune-teller.I suppose this is a slow burn. I sort of modeled it off of the game's pacing, so that's why.

Which is why he tries to help where he can, giving the benefit of the doubt even to those who have been rude to him for no reason. As long as they have access to water, some can even last months without biting into a hamburger or tasting the sweetness of strawberry jam on a biscuit hot out of the oven. There are drawbacks, of course, to skipping meals. Dizziness, fainting, weight loss too quick for the body to adapt to.
It’s Astarion's first table of the day. The dull, slow thump of his heartbeat rushes past his ears. His knees buckle with every step. He’s falling apart, he knows this, but with ten cents in the bank and another few days to wait until his paycheck comes in, all Astarion can do is keep putting one foot in front of the other and hope he doesn’t collapse. There’s no time to think about the metaphorical hand tightening around his stomach and throat.
