Benson wasn’t sure what it was. Maybe he spent a little too long on his cigarette, or maybe he took his sweet time loading up his shotgun, but nothing was going the way he planned.
Now it was just him and his fucking pathetic, moldy burger eating, tear soaked, blue-eyed coworker.
All Benson had to do was pull the trigger. His whole life had built up to this moment, and he was fucking hesitating.
Bradley was ruining everything.

He took a step forward before he could talk himself out of it. The sound of his voice coming out made him want to bury his head in his hands. “B—Benson?”
The man who looked exactly like the Benson who manned the grill when Burger’s rush hour hit turned his head slowly. The smile that spread across his face was not the quick, weary thing he begrudgingly offered to customers.
He licked his lips and studied Randy with an amusement that made Randy want to turn on his heel and bolt. When Randy closed the distance, his sneakers scuffing slightly against concrete, the man set his cup down and grinned.
“You know my brother?”

Summary
After locking up, the question bubbles out of Benson’s chest like a belch, bleach flavored. The store key’s still in the lock and for once the exhaustion in his bones has beaten out the shrieking air raid sirens that've been howling in Benson's skull since his childhood. So Benson just does, no forethought or deeper examination involved. Allows himself the mercy of not looking too closely at why he’d ever think getting Bradley liquor loose and pliable would end up well for either of them.
“You wanna go get a beer?” A pause, the store key halfway turned into the locking position. He flicks it over the rest of the way to avoid having to go back inside and rearm the security system. “You old enough to even fuckin’ drink?”

It's not late, but it's late enough that when his phone rings, Benson raises an eyebrow. People don't call him. Or, the people who do call him don't have any business calling him right now.
Benson unplugs his phone from the charger by the dresser, and squints at the screen. The scrolling letters say, Bradley (work). He sighs. Maybe he dialed by accident, meant to call someone else and hit Benson's name instead. Who is Bradley trying to call on a Friday night?
When he picks up, Bradley says, "Hi, um. Sorry for calling. I was wondering if I could ask for a favor? I'm sort of stuck, and I need a ride, and I didn't know who else to call."

Benson works his hand over his own face, fingers shaking as they smooth his mustache down. “I– if you get in that car, it’s– we’ll have to keep running,” he says hoarsely. “They’re gonna keep looking for me.”
“For us.” Randy nods, his heart in his throat. He doesn’t think he’s ever felt the wind so keenly against his skin, doesn’t think the wet pavement has ever smelled so sweet, doesn’t think Benson’s eyes have ever been so blue. Everything feels electric, like the air before a thunderstorm. “I know. I don’t care. I don’t want to stay in this town any longer, anyway.”
“You mean it?”
“Yeah.” He’s never meant anything before, he thinks. He means this.
Benson starts to smile, then, wild and sharp. “Alright. Let’s get out of here.”

At least, Steve Harrington thinks so.
Sometimes it's a newly trained expert. Someone fresh out of school that's spent years studying meteorology before finally getting out into the field for some hands-on experience. Other times, it's some video live streamer, looking for a bunch of views and an influx of cash in trade for being a little too reckless.
Of course, Steve's just the wheel man, so what the fuck does he know? That's what Henderson would say, anyway. Steve's supposed to drive, not get them killed, and follow the little dickhead's directions. That's it.

He can’t keep his eyes from darting down to where Whitaker’s thighs grip the saddle, how he slides forwards on it with every downward bow of the bull and back as it pushes up. Again and again and again, he rolls with the mechanical bull with a single circular fluid motion.
It crosses his mind that this might be one of the hottest things he’s ever seen. He doesn’t even try to unpack that thought, it doesn’t even feel like an opinion he can change. It’s just a fact. Whitaker on the mechanical bull is one of the hottest things he’s ever seen.
